Drew's errant Dash Panel adventure

Posted October 5,2010 NLMC blogAfter sitting down with the Club to have lunch at Adamo's during the Founders Day run, Drew. like most who rode that day, strolled out into the parking area to get on his bike and take it next door to get fuel. He got on his bike, the afternoon sun had finally broken through the cloud cover and the air was warming, looking down at his Lower Console he noticed it was askew. That was funny, he hadn't noticed it when he arrived, had someone been playing with his bike? Perhaps he was so intent on the ride he had just failed to notice it, Either way, he slipped it back into position and checked it, Tight and secure, all was again right with the world.

The Club hit the pavement and headed south along rte 10 through a few Massachusetts towns and into Connecticut, turning onto the connecting road to 91 and passing the Bradley Airport, the console again became loose, to the point where Drew had to ride with one hand on the item to keep it from flopping around scratching the fuel tank paint. Onto 91, The Club cruised south, Drew held a grip on his console, down through Poquonock, Windsor, and Hartford, onto rte 84 into East Hartford, onto rte 2 through Glastonbury, East Glastonbury, Marlborough and exit 13 he held his grip. Pulling off the exit and into Dunkin Donuts, he stopped to find out what was wrong, This was a Harley, parts aren't suppose to fall off,(?).
Checking the panel he found that the screw was still tight, the hole it goes through though was quite large, larger than it should be, so the screw was doing it's job, it just had nothing to hold onto. (Unlike some people who have a great mount hole, but no screw).
Drew remounted his trusty steed and headed home, Jumping on his computer, he went into search mode and found a panel which looks like it might be correct, $52.00, not bad when the other panels he found where around $300.00, So he ordered it. Now he waits, the panel should be arriving Friday, and he hopes it will fit.

So Drew will probably not be riding until Saturday, when, if the panel has come in, and if the panel is correct, the bike will be back together. Of course, he did say if he gets withdrawal symptoms he may have to just get a big washer and bolt it on until the part is replaced.
