All you can eat spaghetti for $5.00
The Club rode to a fifth grade benefit this evening, we met at the usual place for a 6pm departure. The E-mail sent out was not correct and should have said 615pm but that is of no matter, because we rarely leave when we say anyway. Our former 2nd VP turned Town Councilman led the ride in the dark up 163 onto some road followed by some other road until we arrived at a Firehouse, this in itself was a surprise to some of us because we thought we were heading to a school.
Walking up to the firehouse there was a distinct sound of little people in the air. Entering, and paying for the meal we were met by a wall of chiblings scurrying around seating people, serving them and asking what else they might need. The food was pretty good (they even had meatballs!), and they were placing it on the table for us as we sat, no waiting here. There were a couple miss-communications like the need for forks, forks would have been good, and after a couple of minutes of little people running hither and dither the forks arrived. I mentioned that I had never seen that many little people in a firehouse before and was informed by our new 2nd VP that they put out little fires.
And true to a Laurel and Hardy skit when our new #2 requested 2nds because it was all you can eat for $5.00 he found that what he had eaten WAS all you can eat for $5.00.
It was a good evening if a tad cool, and once again the Club rode to support a cause in the town and had a good time doing so.
Here's a note for Jason, while we were leaving two women were looking at his bike, one of them said it was pretty, the other turned to her and said "It's YANKEES" , the first said " I was talking about the cute little blue lights not that team!
Maybe next summer the Club should take a ride to Boston, we can park by Faneull Hall and take a walk through Faneull,Haymarket and Quincy Markets, check out the street performers and there is always plenty of food. A walk through Boston is always great and we would have the added anticipation of seeing what condition Jason's bike would be in when we got back. For those that don't know it, and I can't see how you wouldn't, Jason likes the Yankees, not a very popular team around Boston.

From the President
It is my sad duty to inform you that we have loss another Member of the New London Motorcycle Club.
Died Monday at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London from internal bleeding post surgery. Brad had recently had a valve replacement at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, and was doing well recovering at Beechwood when he devoloped a difficulty in breathing and died on the way to the hospital.
The untimely circumstances of his death has lead to an autopsy, which will delay services.
Service arrangements will be made through the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home in East Lyme.
I have contacted the Garside's and asked if they would extend NLMC Honor Guard service to the family on any level they wish. The Honor Guard at minimum will attend some part of the service.
Those newer members who did not know Brad should know he was the guy on the Red Honda Goldwing Trike who attended the escort of the Moving Wall event. Brad has been a member of the NLMC for the last 15 years. I will miss Brad's always friendly, smiling greetings each Monday at Ocean Beach Park. He was a great guy.

Former 2nd Vice President's daughter is part of this 5th grade class.
The VP has arranged for the first eight people in the Club to arrive to be paid for by him. I can't wait to see the shoving match as everyone gets off their bikes and head for the door.
Congrats to the Election winners
Jim is still the Pres. (No one else wanted that job) and he has a new chair to show his regalness. (if thats a word), Steve was awarded another term as VP. Dan Dunn won Second VP, Another job no one in their right mind wanted was Road Captain so Tom is still the man. Same goes for the Secretary of the Treasury so Paul still has that seat. The New Recording Secretary is Jason. and the Honor Guard Captain remains Rich.
At this time I would like to say we know what we have in Jim, Steve, Tom, Paul and Rich...as for Dan and Jason...You can bet your V-Twins we'll be watching you...Reeeeal Close.

There is a reason...
I have seen people put on their Gerbing jacket and gloves throw a vest over the top and head out riding. I figured I could too, So Thursday night that's exactly what I did, Chaps, jacket, and gloves and off I went. Brenda and I met Reuben and Theresa at the Dunkin Donuts on route 27 in Old Mystic. After fueling up we were off, tre leading. She took us on a great ride, Up route 27 to Old Mystic, onto route 207 to North Stonington, up Wyassup Lake road to route 49 which we followed into Voluntown. Then route 138 to Jewitt City.. I mentioned to Brenda as we cruised along route 138 that my arms were getting chilly, I should mention at this time that Brenda was not plugged in and was only Brenda in name, with her chaps, jacket, gloves, sweatshirt, cap, face-mask and other assorted paraphernalia to keep warm it could have been anyone underneath, and after mentioning my arms were getting chilly, she informed me she had no sympathy and that I was a plugged in wimp. Tre was bundled nicely and seemed warm enough and she did the good Road Sergeant thing and stopped in Jewitt City on Route 12 to ask how we were. Rueben was probably the coldest of all of us since he was only wearing the gloves and leather jacket and has no windshield but didn't seem to complain. Tre asked how we were doing and it was decided to cut the ride short and proceed south on route 12 to Norwich then 32 to the Club. As we headed south tre again slowed and asked if we should just grab 395 south to 163 to the Club where they should have a fire going. At this time I heard a very muffled sound behind me indicating that the shortest ride back would be best, as a matter of fact as we were getting on 395 I kept hearing that same muffled voice behind me repeating the word "fire". So we cranked up the throttles and flew back to the Club via the highway. It was a great ride anyway, I only wish it could have been warmer and not have been cut short.
I have determined that those people wearing the Gerbing with nothing over the top are either wearing heated clothing too damn early in the season, or are nuts and the cold doesn't effect them. Because I can honestly tell you, It doesn't work at 40 degrees and below. Sure its comfortable while you are stopped and it isn't bad for about 40 minutes or so at speed, but you see Gerbing has great heating across the tops of the arms, but nothing under the arms and the material might be considered ah..whats a good word here...thin...useless. The wind grows right through the jacket, and where its heated there is no problem, where it isn't gets a tad cool, cold even.
So back to the title of this story, There is a reason they call it a "Jacket Liner" It definitely belongs under a nice warm insulated thick leather jacket.

One of those times
Sometimes things work out o/k, and you actually get what you need. Reuben was given a string of Raffle tickets at the Gift Run by someone who was leaving early. Well, Reuben's number was called and he went up and collected his prize. At this point let me give you a little "Reuben History". Reuben works on BMWs, For those who don't know what that means it stands for Bayerische Motoren Werkes. (Bavarian Motor Works). the key word being Bavarian which means he works with metric tools all day long. Reuben rides a American Classic Edition 750cc Honda. Do you see the pattern here, Honda equals Metric. Well Reuben won a tool kit, A Harley Davidson 8 in 1 tool kit. (That would be good ol' USA standard.). So since Reuben can't afford a Harley, the tool kit will be placed with pride on a bookshelf. Reuben is planning on building a custom bike of his own though, so perhaps, just perhaps he will find use for it there. Do you think a Mazda rotary engine mounted in a Yamaha frame will need any standard thread parts?
So like I said, sometimes you get what you need...this ain't one of those times.
