Was thinking about it and ......WHAT?!!!!

Not really intending to do more than express my opinion on the last post, but, On my way home from work all that ran through my mind was ..."WHAT?!!!"

The mentioned states want to pass legislation to stop a law that will make it legal to transport a concealed weapon across state lines...Let me give you a fer instance:
Connecticut does NOT honor any carry permits from any of it's surrounding states. Fact.

Massachusetts honors NO other state permit!!!

Pennsylvania does not honor New York, New Jersey, Ohio, or Maryland. It does honor West Virginia.

California honors Arizona but not Oregon and Nevada

Now here's my question and why it makes no sense to me. If I live in Massachusetts and I have a permit, I carry across the state line into Connecticut under the new legislation I have broken no law. News Flash. My permit is no good in Connecticut what the hell difference does it matter that there is a law about the state line? The entire state is illegal!!!

If I live in New York, and I want to carry my gun into Connecticut legally (assuming I am carrying it legally in New York), I would have to apply for a Connecticut Permit, take the required training, run through a back ground test, and give a damn good reason why I want to carry a gun in "their" state, and acquire a Connecticut permit.

Now with Permit in hand for both states I can carry in both states, but with the New Legislation I can't carry concealed across the state line?  What do I have to do, take it out and wave it around as I cross the line? Maybe I would have to stop, take the gun off, place it in the trunk, cross the line, stop and go back to carrying it?

Pennsylvania: I am a gun in PA with my WV permit, which PA honors, I can do this, but...I can't take it across the state line? DO I need to own a gun in both states and rent a locker in one of them

I don't know....

My favorite is Hawaii, State line law??? What state line???  I do believe if I decide to go to Hawaii and carry a concealed weapon I would have a lot more problems concerning the FAA, FBI, Homeland Security and airline people than worrying about a state line law.

The truth is I understand what they are trying to avoid, a law which would allow me to cross state lines lets say, from Ct to Vermont and pass though Massachusetts without a Mass. permit.  It would void that States carry law.
But in most cases you can do that now, you can bring your gun across state lines, you normally have to contact that state, advise them of your route and times and do not deviate. You just can't carry while you are crossing that state.

It looks like this new legislation is a first step in attempting to be able to carry nationwide and that would be fine with me. I am still in favor of two types of permits, your state, or National. You pay the extra, and you have an "all state" approved test and access level.

klay

You know...just to be goofy, I can carry my weapon now when I travel, Lets say I want to go to Arizona. Simple, get on a boat in the New York Sound, sail down the coast to North Carolina, drive west into Tennessee, turn right at Missouri, run north into Iowa, turn left into South Dakota, cruise into Montana, stop and wave at Canada, make a left turn into Idaho and continue south through Utah to Arizona.

The other direction

Everyone has their own opinion and here's mine, want it or not. I believe Gun permits should be monitored and a full back ground run on the person trying to acquire one. Even if this extends the waiting period a reasonable amount. That said and done, the License should be just like a drivers license, once a person has had the training and background checks the permit should be able to be used in all states.  Or since perhaps not everyone would want one make it available for upgrade (at a reasonable price) for interstate, all state carry).

Now let's here a rebuttal:

(ASSOCIATED PRESS)
Attorneys general in New York and nine other states are asking U.S. Senate leaders to stop legislation that would let licensed gun owners carry concealed firearms across state lines.
Letters sent to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., say it would restrict states' ability to control gun permits inside their borders, forcing them to recognize permits from states with weak oversight.
New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman says 68 percent of the guns used in New York crimes last year were traced to other states.
The other attorneys general are from California, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, Nevada and Oregon, along with Pennsylvania's attorney general-elect.
The bill is supported by the National Rifle Association, which says it lets owners protect themselves in other states.

I am sitting at work thinking...

Coming to work wearing ski thermals was probably not the brightest of ideas. First of all...It is frigging HOT. We have no real heat at work, the furnace runs all night till 2am when the night delivery truck arrived opened the receiving bay door and let all the heat out. Then the furnace runs again trying to heat the place up until we open and the delivery door is opened and closed all day long. So every computer has a mini extremely hot space heater sitting in front of it and wearing the thermals is rather like wearing a sauna suit. Secondly...I can't move.

Don't get me wrong, I put them on this morning drove to work, put on the chaps and Gerbing turned up the heat and headed to Rhode Island to drop off Charlene at Ocean State and I was almost comfortable...but...you know what doing that reminded me off?  How much I absolutely hate Winter. Cold Sucks, Riding with multiple layers sucks.

The bright side is tomorrow is December then all we have to do is suffer through January, February, March, maybe April.

When the Shop talks....

I called my favorite repair facility and told them I had a transmission trap door leak and would like to bring the bike in for service.  They told me that the leaking Trap is common with the 103 but that most times the repair does not require pulling the trans out. The first thing they check is the exhaust mount bolts to the rear of the trans. They told me most times it turns out that the bolts have loosened and that Harley designed the exhaust bolts in that location to do double duty. The bolts hold the exhaust bracket but also go through the case, These bolts have a tendency to loosen. What the shop told me is to drop it tomorrow, they will clean off the area, inspect those bolts, loctite and re torque them and if there is still a leak they will go from there. According to that shop 95% of the time the bolts are the culprit and not the case or gasket.

Charlene is ill

I took the bike over to my area dealer today about the oil leak. The Service manager sent a guy out to look at the bike. The guy laid on the ground looked underneath and stood right back up. He said it is the Transmission Trap door gasket leaking. The tranny has to come out, the gasket replaced, the bolts re torqued and loctited. It turns out that on the new 103's this is a common problem and Harley has issued a repair bulletin.

The last bike had a leaking seal and needed the primary replaced with new seals, this one needs the tranny ripped down and re-sealed. One thing I can say about Harley, they never seemed to have easy to fix, trinket problems....

That Road Star is looking better and better all the time.

Can you carry

I was reading "Concealed Carry Handguns 2013" today at work and they point out one very important Tip in your choice to carry a hand gun. That Tip is do not rely on what people tell you that you can or cannot do, for your own protection read the State laws.
It's like the old Joke:What is the difference between the accussed and a Lawyer? When the trials over the accused goes to Jail, the Lawyer goes to lunch.

Here are a couple of State of Connecticut  yes/ no's.

Can you carry on School grounds: NO
Do you have to notify an officer that you have a weapon on Contact by Law? NO
Can you carry your weapon in State Parks or National Forests:  NO
Do "No Gun Signs" have the Force of the Law?  YES
The permit to carry does not authorize you to carry anywhere where the possession of a fire
arm is otherwise prohibited by law or by a person who owns or exercises control over such
                        Premises.

Can a City or Town pass ordinances which restrict the carrying of concealed weapons; YES. Connecticut does NOT have Preemption, and Cities and States can pass ordinances that Prohibit.
Example: Woodbridge Ct. bans Firearms on all City property.
Cities and Towns need not post property.

As of 2011 Iowa now Honors a Connecticut Permit.
As of Dec 1. 2011 North Carolina now honors a Connecticut permit.
As of July 1, 2012 Mississippi Honors a Connecticut permit..

At the Top of every page is a map showing who honors who's permit.

Truck Drivin' Movie

I was thinking today of friends who have left this world for a better place and one of the people who came to mind was Tex. Tex (nickname) was an older gentleman at the time I met him, (1976) in the fire Service. Tex was the Truck Company Chauffeur. (Drove the Hook and Ladder truck). Tex was the person who started the name which after time, shortening and rephrasing became my nickname Klay. Tex loved diving rigs. When Tex was at the Firehouse you would find him in one of two places, sitting in an old cloth covered recliner or behind the wheel of a rig. One day I walked into the Firehouse to find him griping, it turned out he went to the movies the night before to see a Movie called "Logan's Run"  He sat down in the theater all ready to see some guy named Logan behind the wheel of a rig in a movie like Convoy.

A Truck driving movie...

I thought it was funny as hell, I worked part time at the area theaters and I had seen the movie.

If you have seen the movie you will know why an old Goat Roapin' truck driver might be a tad pissed of.  If you haven't seen the film...

Here's the trailer:

Of course there are others

If you aren't quite into the looks of the BRUTUS

You can look into getting a Packard Bentley

Fire breather

I've worked with BMW cars since 1981...

That is 31 years, and I can honestly tell you...I see no reason to own one. For the same money I can get a car with all the gadgets and trinkets and get change back.. Although...the Z4 brought me close to owning one. I used one for a couple weeks when they first came out and loved the way the handled and I loved being out in the sun (cabrio), I liked it so much it was the reason I went out and bought a new motorcycle instead.

But I was watching Youtube the other day, and I found a BMW I might actually enjoy driving an owning. It isn't actually fast, but it does put on a good show. And...

You know that sound the Club makes as the entire group slows and lugs a hill, That low throbbing rumble of bikes.... With this car...I don't need the other bikes around me to make that noise...And it's a handy vehicle in the Kitchen...

I give you...The "Brutus" BMW 46 liter, V-12, Heinkel  He111 Bomber engine'd, chain driven ....car?

Thanksgiving Dinner

I decided this year that instead of cooking a full size Thanksgiving Dinner for just me and my Father that it would be an entire lot easier if I just ordered a Holiday meal "home delivered".

So I got on the phone and placed the order, they told me that many people now aren't eating Turkey on the Holidays, they are having White meat instead. So I asked "You mean white turkey meat, no dark?" to which I was told it was...the "Other" white meat. So I figured what the hell...I can do Turkey for Christmas, I can do Pork for Thanksgiving, after all many people have ham on the holidays.

Just before noon I got a call saying the meal was delivered and was on the porch in a heated container. Strange I thought. But what the heck.

You know what...You don't need turkey on Thanksgiving, Pork isn't bad. And I don't know how they cooked it but it was the best pork I have ever had..It didn't taste like your normal roast pork. It was really good. I gave them a call to tell them that and they said it was more like...the other, other white meat.

Whatever.

A little Thanksgiving History

It all started years ago...many people think it had something to do with the Pilgrims, but the truth is Someone once said "You know, this is a Great Country....but...it has too many Turkeys",

So someone in Government decided to create a committee, which researched the Turkey problem long and hard, then sat in endless meetings discussing the issue, and deliberating a strategy then decided to create a holiday to get rid of them,

But you see, once again...the Government got it wrong... These weren't the Turkeys they were talking about....

The Turkeys in question were of a really fat family tree with only three branches...

And...BY THE WAY...IT DOESN'T MATTER WHAT YEAR OR WHO IS THERE

From the President

HAPPY THANKSGIVING
TO ALL!!!

BIRD

Just because it is coming up, I thought you would enjoy this original recipe!!!!!
I thought this sounded good! Here is a turkey recipe that also includes the
use of popcorn as a stuffing ingredient -- imagine that.
When I found this recipe, I thought it was perfect for people like me, who
just are not sure how to tell when turkey is thoroughly cooked, but not
dried out.

Give this a try.
TURKEY RECIPE
8 - 15 lb. turkey
1 cup melted butter
1 cup stuffing (Pepperidge Farm is Good)
1 cup un-popped popcorn (ORVILLE REDENBACHER'S LOW FAT IS BEST)
Salt/pepper to taste
Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
Brush turkey well with melted butter, salt and pepper.
Fill cavity with stuffing and popcorn. Place in baking pan making
sure the neck end is toward the front of the oven, not the back.
After about 4 hours listen for the popping sounds.
When the turkey's ass blows the oven door open and the bird flies
across the room,.... it's done.
And, you thought I didn't cook...

*HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!!!!*

Honey, can you feed the cat?

Rail travel package

In order to increase ridership and boost their customer file, the United States National Rail Passenger Corporation has restructured their ticket packages.  Knowing that times are hard, and that many people can't really afford to travel they have added a new inexpensive no frills service. While this is very affordable, you will find there is no baggage service and there is no insurance coverage.

Actually I am told this was taken in India of a ticket-less passenger. Oh to be in a land which is not run by litigation.

Your new ring tone is here sir.

Ring Tone

they stare back, they Always....stare back

At night, each night, I sit alone in the living room of my house, looking out through the glass in the back door, into the darkness.
And each night there are two steel gray green eyes staring back. Every night I see these eyes as I sit in the light and watch the night descend. Not man, nor woman,  the eyes sit too close, and still they stare in. This is no child either for the eyes are raised too high above the rear step...but still they stare in. Even as I sit miles away at work during the light of day, I can see those eyes in my mind staring back.  And I know they will be there tonight.

There is a sadness in those eyes, a look as if they are seeking or needing that which they can not find themselves. Not a hint of anger or a touch of evil, more a longing for what they cannot achieve alone.

I know they want me to rise, to get up out of my chair and come to them. They want me to cross the distance in the warm light of the home to the darkness outside. And though I will be wont to stay where I rest, I know I will rise and cross that room, and with my face up against the glass I will stare out into the darkness of the night, into the gray green depths of those eyes and ask of them what they wish. And I know my hand will move to the handle, undo the lock and swing the door open, and the eyes will drop to the ground, as the shadow that holds them turns away then turns towards me and runs past me into the light, into the warmth, into the house and I will be alone in there no more.

Until of course ehe wants to go out again...
in lets say....5 minutes

A cold? A stomach bug? Perhaps...VD?

I walked in the back room to visit Charlene this morning...

fired her up and backed her out of the shop,

Behind her on the floor where she was parked was 5 small oil drips...

A look at her..."down below" and the drip seems to be somewhere around the transmission...

So tonight..she gets a piece of cardboard under her butt, then perhaps a trip to Oceanstate is in her future.

Stupid Harleys....

With Felicity it turned out to be a seal and to fully repair her they had to replace the primary..

Maybe when Charlene is better...I'll take her out for a ride....

And come home with a Road Star.
