New Laws

Well..not here but....

Another law taking effect at midnight is Public Act 97-743 in Illinois. This law imposes a fine of $1,000 on anyone who pops a wheelie on a motorcycle while speeding. While this law might upset some motorcyclists, the state is now giving them a free pass to go through red lights.

Motorcycles are often not heavy enough to trigger magnetic sensors at traffic lights to inform them a vehicle has pulled up. Motorcyclists usually have to wait for a car to pull up before the light turns green.
The new bill states that after a "reasonable" amount of time, the motorcycle could pass the red light if the coast is clear. The law doesn't apply to cities where the population exceeds 2 million people.

Illinois is also imposing a law cracking down on those who posses, sell or distribute shark fins. For those that haven't looked at a map lately, Illinois is nowhere near an ocean.

Ignorance is bliss...and...annoying

All day long today Charlene has been talking to me. She wants to go for a ride. She is itching for the New Years day run...and she keeps saying...let's go...blow off the rest of the day.

I shoveled and chipped ice all morning, throwing down rock salt to make a clear strip to daylight at work. The side of the building we are on, is in perpetual shade, so everything melts up to the sun break then...packed snow and ice...till April. So I, NOT NOW!!!, chopped a line out so I have a clear run. But the area past the sun line is also packed snow, though it is melting and that is where the problem lies. Everything, NOT RIGHT NOW...STOP ASKING... that melts out there today collects in lakes of water, tonight the temperature will drop and tomorrow, ice sheets. But still Charlene beckons.. Let's ride.

I spent the day throwing Calcium and salt all over the place, I learned from a couple years ago not to wear leather gloves spreading salt. Have you ever seem what leather does when it meets salt?  Try it sometime, put on your best leather....SHUT UP!!!... best leather riding gloves, reach into a bag of rock salt with them. You can call it a science project..

Anyway...Charlene is still whining about not being outside and she is driving me nuts. The problem I think, is that she is facing inside....she can't see out the door.

Two sides to every argument

Yup, after weighing all the options and studying the benefits of both seasons, I have come to a decision. There is no use arguing any other points, my mind is made up and no one can change it.
I unequivocally believe...

Winter just Sucks

Just keep telling yourself, "I like winter"

Stormin' Norman passes

Norman Schwarzkopf died yesterday at age 78. Born in Trenton, NJ, Schwarzkopf graduated from West Point and rose through the ranks of the US Army eventually becoming a four-star General. Schwarzkopf commanded Operation Desert Storm, successfully driving out Saddam Hussein’s Iraqi forces from Kuwait in 1991. While he was known to many as “Stormin Normin”, the men under his command simply called Schwarzkopf “The Bear”.

A few Norman Schwarzkopf quotes:

“Leadership is a potent combination of strategy and character. But if you must be without one, be without strategy.”

“The more you sweat in peace, the less you bleed in battle.”

“When placed in command, take charge.”

“It doesn’t take a hero to order men into battle. It takes a hero to be one of those men who goes into battle.”

“True courage is being afraid, and going ahead and doing your job anyhow, that’s what courage is.”

“Do what is right, not what you think the high headquarters wants or what you think will make you look good.”

New Years plunge

We have the annual breakfast and watch the demented run into the sound run coming up on the first. Hopefully we will be able to do this on our bikes, it looks like the weather will be ok, the forecast for Tuesday is a tad different from the last couple years in that it might actually be more seasonably correct.

Tuesday, 01/01/13 (New Year's Day):   Partly sunny, chance for a snow shower.  Low: 21.  High: 35 inland, 37 shore.

Poetic justice and tickle my funnybone

A few days ago the "Journal News" posted an interactive map showing where all the pistol permit owners where located in the New York area.

A blogger named Robert Cox of the blog "Talk of the Sound" had an answer for this. In retaliation he posted an interactive map pinpointing the addresses of the newspaper’s employees.

Taking it's lead from the newspaper's original article "Where are the pistol permit holders live in your neighborhood?" he named his post,

"Where are the Journal News employees in your neighborhood?"

Could be worse

Lets see ya throw that leg over the bike now!

Why I hate Cold weather

My Plan

My plan was to go to work this morning, work till noon, pick up the bike, ride to lunch with the Road Captain, ride today, tonight and tomorrow, then back to work on Wednesday.

So far...let's see how it's going...I went to work, The Bike? Are you nuts? It's freezing out, and...tonight is suppose to be rain with snow mix.   Nasty

So I have a NEW plan, Take the car to lunch, then bask in the comfort of the fully adjustable seat and warm toasty heat as I cruise home.

Wishing everyone a Merry Christmas

Bub and I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas

Bub and I wish everyone a wonderful Christmas, and a healthy New Year. A prayer goes out to the families in Newtown, may they find peace and healing, God bless them.

Yes, we have missed everyone of our Club Brothers and Sisters, but we think of you often. It is kind of a healing power that you give us. You stood by our side last year when I had cancer. Once again, I have cancer and chemotherapy started today. This one should be a snap, I'm a pro now!

Last week, Boston Hospital called Bub, told him to be at the hospital no later than 8am yesterday, and bring your support group. So, Keith, Brett (our Grandson) and myself, took Bub up. It was another "see how fast you can get your support group together and get here" routine, but they gave a weeks notice. Anyway, the doctor and Bub talked, we all talked. I was a little upset with him, but I understand his frustration. Really upset that the doctor thought I wouldn't be able to take care of Bub. All that's history now. They called Bub today and told him that he was being placed on the lung transplant list and if he received a call, we need to haul ass!

This has been one year, I do not want to repeat. But with all the extended family that we have, I am sure we will make it, all the way.

God bless all of you,
Thank you
Karen and Bubba

Some riding tips

I was thinking the other day, as many bikes as there as in the United States, Per Capita I'm sure the Asian countries have more. So with all those bikes flying around the back roads, highways, and cities over there I thought it might be a good idea to have a look and see what riding tips we might pick up from there. So below are two links that you really should watch and maybe, just maybe you will see something you are not doing that you should be doing....

The people I love

The following is a link to MY Customers. Those people who have no consideration of others and no thoughts of accountability (I love the reverse move into the car then trying to blame the guy they hit) and no thoughts of consequences (Some one in front of me, I'll just change lanes, oops). And you know...with the traction of an All wheel drive vehicle you can drive real fast in the winter...What do you mean the traction isn't the same when you are sliding.

Inexpensive Pet

Are you looking for a pet for the little one in your family. Are you not sure if that person will take care of a pet or whether you will get stuck doing so?  What if I were to tell you how to have a pet and not care about taking care of it. This would be a pet that if the child grew tired of it you could let it go. A pet that, if it died you probably wouldn't shed any tears over the loss.

 Interested?

First, you need access to someone with long hair, if you don't have it, check the wife or child, (This is where girls come in handy).
Pluck a long strand of hair and set aside. Go to the window (or a garbage can) and find a fly, put your hand behind the fly and in a sweeping motion, come in from behind it and catch it. (Little known fact: flies take off by hopping backwards first). With the fly caught, place it in the freezer for about 5 minutes. While the fly is going into hypothermia shock, tie a noose in the strand of hair. Remove the fly from the freezer, place the noose around its body, under it's wings and tighten. (Careful not to over tighten or you will have two halves of a fly). With noose secured, hand end of string to your child, when the fly warms up it will take off and your child will have a fly on a leash. If you do decide to free it just cut the hair.

Note, moths can be used also, but they don't circle as much.

About the earlier post

The other day I made a post entitled "Worth waiting for"

Please tell me you are not still waiting.

There is nothing loading...

You can stop waiting.

It is a GIF, an animated icon of a loading picture, if you haven't figured it out yet....

Biking tip of the day.

When turning a big bike at slow speeds, a tiny amount of pressure on the rear brake can help you maintain control of the degree of lean you want.

Fast turn or slow, NEVER forget to look through the turn!

The facts about the worlds end..you decide

In an effort to alleviate the growing concerns many people have about tomorrow and the end of the world, the United States Government contacted NASA in hopes it could supply some proof that the world will NOT end tomorrow and everyone should relax and carry on normally.

NASA recalculated trajectories and sent a message out to the Hubble telescope to change it's flight plan and have it rotate 180 degrees to take pictures of the Earth.

Hubble sent a group of photos back to Earth and after the NASA Scientists studied the pictures they are no longer sure the world will NOT end tomorrow. The Government required that NASA not allow these photos to leak to the public. But someone released one and here it is.

I leave it to you to decide whether or not to be concerned.

LAST CHANCE !!!!

This evening is a VERY Important meeting !!!!

According to a large assemblage of Humans the world ends tomorrow, so don't miss your last chance to talk to other Club members!!!

Almost a new slideshow

I put together a group of photos from 2012 (plus a couple earlier ones) and made a slide show. The "Movie" lasts around 31 minutes long. I am having trouble with Youtube though, the movie took 28 hours to download onto youtube and it is there, but there is no sound on it. This is because due to copyright laws you just can't use any music you want, you either have to have the rights to the music, have permission to use the music, or use Youtube's available music. So after downloading a person would usually click on the "show only music with the same length as video" tab and download thier music to your video.
You may not be aware of this but ... there doesn't seem to be any 31 minute songs out there. So I am trying to find a way to have either multiple music tracks on it, or have one 5 minute track  repeat... six... and... a... half... times.   So far though...no luck.

But if you are interested in watching a 31 minute silent slide show(sort of like staring at a screen saver) you can view it at:

http://www.youtube.com/user/klayofthemystics?feature=mhee

You will find other club videos there as well.

It's that time of year

Whether you ride year round or not, the winter months are traditionally the time of year where everyone works on, tunes, or accessorizes their bike. If you need stuff,(and everyone does), from clothes to bike accessories to decorations J&P has been one of the main places to go to.

If you have never been to their website, or have been but want to go there again, here is their link.

A Hard day at Work

Today is one of those days at work you just don't look forward to. The phone lines in the building only work inbound we can make no outside calls. Now this in it self would be no big deal, we all have cel phones and can call anyone we want to. The problem comes in with the rest of the work programs. The invoice and stock systems require telephone access to the mainframe in Groton Connecticut, so that system doesn't work. This means no pricing, stock checks, repair orders or counter slips. The BMW mainframe is in the same boat, which means no ordering of parts, checking order statistics, back-order issues, or pricing through the home system. This means the day has been restricted to surfing the web, writing in the blog, and watching YOUTUBE.

It's the drool in the keyboard I worry about.

A note of concern

With the Holiday season quickly approaching there is often times more chances of becoming inebriated,(a fancy way of saying, falling down drunk). In such cases it is not advisable to be on two wheels and with all the Police DUI inspections going on this time of year driving anything with four or more wheels is not advisable either.

Since we care about all our Club brothers and Sisters, remember the best thing to do is ride with a friend (A NON -drinking friend). This can be done ahead of time by deciding which member of your little group is willing to have a miserable night spending time with a lot of loud foolish stinking idiotic acting drunks.

If you are out and notice one of our family members having a little difficulty in say talking or walking, you may want to help that person out. None of wants to wear Honor Guard gear any more than we have to.

Product news

For those of you who thought Corbin was just about seats, you need to visit their website. Once there, pick your type of bike and see what is available. Corbin produces everything from side covers, saddlebags, fairings, trunks, and chine spoilers to furniture, and yes of course, seats.
Hard Bags

Rear Fenders

Trunks

front fenders and engine spoilers

Smuggler boxes
.

Corbin offers a new development in style for your Road King, Road Glide, Street Glide or Electra-Glide! This new side cover design adds a nice bit of smooth detail in the shaping. Subtle and very clean, Corbin side covers will install on all bagger models from 2009 and up. Specifically designed to work with or without the Harley-Davidson saddlebag crash guards and/or heat deflectors installed. Corbin side covers will also work on models with the ABS unit under the side covers!

These sides covers are constructed of durable ABS for years of service and durability. They come either raw or pre-painted in a single color to coordinate with your stock HD color scheme. Mounting hardware is included and pre-installed on the side covers for simple installation. Just remove the stock side covers and pop 'em on!

Corbin's lower profile design and smooth shape allows for cleaner air flow. This in turn helps to evacuate engine heat from the rear cylinder which can build up and become uncomfortable with the bigger engines like the 110 Screaming Eagle motor.
Installation Note: The Corbin bullets fit snugly into the stock rubber receptacles .. tight enough to trap air! You may find it easier to pierce the back of the rubber receptacle with a pin in order to allow air to escape as you snap the covers into place.

Oh yeah, and how can your house be complete without some furniture to sit on...

So if you nothing to do try a visit to the Corbin Site...

Big footed clod-hoppers

Do you find that you can't set your foot flat on the foot boards of your bike? Are your feet a tad to long to fit between the toe and heal shifter. There is a simple fix for this, two actually.

If you don't use, or don't like, the heal shifter you can remove it and add a shift rod sleeve which removes the extra play of the shaft with only one lever. This will give you free movement backwards with your foot.

Two styles shown

But, if you are like me and absolutely love the heal shifter removing it would be out of the question. In this case you can gain room by replacing the stock shift levers with extended ones. I have found this to be the correct answer for me, plus having the extended rear pedal allowed me to drop it down below the foot-board height. By dropping it down all you have to do to up-shift is slide your foot back, you don't actually have to raise your foot off the board.

The Same lever can be used to extend the front shift lever as well.

There are a number of places on the internet that offer these items, but while you can find the levers for metric bikes such as Honda, Suzuki, and Yamaha, they require more research. Harley arms are sold by everyone everywhere.

Just cuz...

This has absolutely nothing to do with anything, but I figured it was a pretty cool picture so I would share it.

The photo, I believe, was taken in Russia.

The Secret of Life

What a lot of people do not understand is that the secret of Life is easy... Things work better when you have help or give help.

Sometimes it's just a matter of giving someone a helping hand.

Sometimes it's working together as a team.
