From the President

After last nights meeting there were some questions about passing the hat. Last year we established a protocol for passing the hat and donations in general. This is a refresher message.

We cannot donate to everything. There is an endless sea of hands reaching out for donations for everything imaginable. When I became a member, the Club had a policy that we made no donations to any charity other than the Waterford County School. When I became President 5 years ago we loosened that policy because I felt if we were going to call ourselves a charitable orgainzation and enjoy a tax free status we needed to step up. That got reigned back in last year.

Protocol:

If you as a member have volunteered to represent an established charity, and want to ask the Club for support, you must run it by the e-board first before or after a meeting before proposing it to the membership or it is an automatic no.

POLICY FOR SOLICITING DONATIONS

(passing the hat etc.)

We shall support fundraising for the Club. Charity begins at home.

We shalll support Veteran Benefit Fundraisers

We shall support established charities (example: Heart or Cancer Ass. Red Cross, MS Etc.) if a member comes to us as a representative involved in said charity.

We shall support Montville community charitable events as we are a part of the Montville community.

We will generally not solicit donations for anything else, but there may be an exception.

POLICY FOR SUPPORTING CHARITY EVENTS
(physical appearance)

We shall support community events with membership participation

We shalll support MAPS charity fundraisers with membership participation

We will consider all other charity events, which may or may not become a Club sanctioned event.

COUNTY DISTRICTS

The New London Motorcycle Club is a local, community based Club headquartered in Montville, Connecticut primarily consisting of membership from New London County. The growth of our membership has spread into other counties in which we have established formal representation for those living in said other counties. Though the County District membership groups may act independently of the Club Executive Board relative to other charity events, donations thereof;
benerfit runs, and other said events, it may not necessarily be supported by the Club. Said County Districts shall not establish conflicting policy, events, or scheduling that creates competition with the Offical Club schedule or direction.

It is difficult to have an advance answer for all questions, but this will serve as the general policy that was discussed last year.
