Dinner to benefit transition housing for veterans

I want to give it one more try this Thursday to see if we can get a nice check from the NLMC to support this project. I'll have tickets available.

Preston - A March 12 dinner and dance will benefit the transitional housing project in New London for homeless veterans.
Several local leaders are planning to attend, including state Sen. Andrew Maynard, D-Stonington, Rep. Christopher Coutu, R-Norwich, Attorney General Richard Blumenthal, Capt. Marc W. Denno, commanding officer of the Naval Submarine Base, and other local political and military leaders.
The New London Homeless Hospitality Center used a grant from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to purchase a four-family house on Mountain Avenue. Homeless veterans will live there while they navigate government programs, find work and look for more permanent housing.
The grant covers 65 percent of the project cost, the center needs to raise the rest through donations.
Veterans, veterans' organizations, people from the hospitality center, a few veteran and public safety motorcycle riders, and volunteers organized the benefit dinner and dance for March 12 at the Preston VFW Post 9452, 28 Spicer Road, in Preston. Retired Senior Chief Petty Officer Dave Anderson, of the Freedom Riders USA in Waterford is leading the effort.
The suggested donation for a ticket is $20. The social hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a pasta dinner at 7 p.m., guest speakers including local politicians and military personnel at 8 p.m., and live music and dancing at 9 p.m.
Anderson is also looking for people who will donate to help ensure that the event is a success. Helpful items include food for the dinner, cash and merchandise and gift cards for a raffle.
Tickets are available at the VFW or by calling 860-437-1777. Make check donations payable to "Homeless Hospitality Center", C/O Dave Anderson, 4 Pennicott Road, Quaker Hill, CT 06375.
