From the President

Saturday was a nasty day with three separate events scheduled. Hard core NLMC riders who ventured out in the stormy weather are to be commended.
Windham County:
Bubba and 5 NLMC riders accompanied by 3 guest, venture out and supported the Jenna Smith benefit in Jewetts City ending at Antone's. The ride was wet, the food outstanding, live music and a packed house of community people. NLMC, the only ones riding in on bikes. Later, after the rain stopped the group went to Ekonk Farms for ice cream.

New London County:

Mike Holmes and Dave Adams were the only two that showed up for the Gatekeepers Remembrance Run. They were also the only 2 bikes on the run. Even the Gatekeepers arrived in 4 wheel cages. The Waterford VFW wasn't even manned. The rain was so intense at one point they took shelter under the 2A overpass watching the lightning bolts dance around them. But hard core as they are, they finished the run. They should have won 1st and 2nd place but by some miracle 2 Gatekeepers won 1st and 2nd place.

New Haven County:

Tom Lloret, Dan Dunn, Rich Woodhall and myself left McDonalds in Flanders at 8:30am enroute to APEX Victory in Branford. I hit a severe bump on I95 and my handlebars turned the bike into a Cafe Racer. Of course my mirrors were pointing toward the ground. I managed to pull them back after a few attempts at 70mph and made it to Apex where I tightened them.
At Apex we picked up Chairwoman Joanne Natale and Mark Lloret and headed out to Prospect on some trail that the town paved and called it a road. Severe ups, downs, switch backs, road disappearing in the rain, which turned into a torrential down pours. Thought I was on a Hare Scramble in the woods. Eventually we made it to the PGR benefit and it had stopped raining and we hooked up with Steve Natale, Steve Murphy, and Vinny Pons. So 9 NLMC riders turned out for this event. On the way home, Rte 68 was shut down because a monster tree that fell across the road. Good thing Steve Natale was with us because it could have turned into a real long day. I got home at 6:00pm which is late enough.

So 17 NLMC riders rode to events on a day most would not venture. Good Job guys, keep the image alive.

Jim
