1 Motorcyclist Killed, Another Injured In Crashes

COLUMBIA, Conn. -- One person is dead after two motorcycles collided in front of the Columbia Fire Department early Friday morning, police said.


Police said the motorcycles collided at about 12:15 a.m. on Route 66.


State police said the motorcyclists were traveling together eastbound on Route 66 when one of the bikes drove off the right side of the roadway, hitting a sign, mailbox and the parked Jeep of a firefighter. Police said the second bike then went down in the roadway.


The driver of the first motorcycle, identified as Wayne Henri Jr., of Canterbury, was killed in the crash, police said. The second motorcyclist, identified as Robert Miller, of Canterbury, was airlifted to Hartford Hospital with head and facial injuries.

Route 66 was closed for about six hours following the crash.
