Memory Lane

Let me take you for a trip down that lane. There is an old saying which says, "Everything changes and usually not for the best". Well here's an instance where there was change it was probably for the good.

You would be riding down I-95 in Groton Ct, and you would come across a smell, it was a particular smell, it was a smell that once you sampled it you would never forget it. To this day is someone mentions it that smell comes back to me. Occasionally there would be a fire and there would be an entirely new olfactory sensation. Do you remember?

It was the Groton Dump.

Not only was there a smell but you could see the location from a long ways away. There was always a cloud swirling above it, you could see it from the Gold Star bridge. And as you got closer specks would start to appear in the swirls, and then wings. Hundreds or thousands of "Dump Ducks" would be circling overhead, diving in jumping around eating, fighting and squawking amongst the rotting, festering and decaying food and garbage. All day long, everyday of the year, they were there, they would come in from the sea in the early morning.

Do you remember?

Do you remember the smell?

The best part was after they were done feeding they would fly down to the Groton Reservoir to wash all that decaying matter off their feet.

Which always made me glad I had Well Water.

I know this has nothing to do with bikes, it was just something I wanted to share. Something for you to remember an earlier time, something for you to say...Yeeech
