A Letter received from the Freedom Riders USA

March 20,2010

Dear Commander, President, or Community Leader

I know you are probably tired of reading letters and emails from me and I have really begun to hate the taste of envelope glue and my typing fingers are worn down, so you don't have to worry; there won't be another one for awhile.

Seriously, I was both honored and humbled by the tremendous support and generosity displayed by you and your prestigious organization. I know from the comments made to others and me since since the night of March 10, 2010 by Volunteers, Dinner Guests, Military, Veteren and Political Leaders present at the Veterans Transitional Home Dinner/Dance Benefit, we all share the same awe and respect of how you and your fellow Veteren Organizations pulled together to make the night such a success.

You not only were instrumental in raising much needed funding for Veterans Transition Home, but also in raising public consciousness about an obligation to Veterans less fortunate. Usually the Homeless Vet phenomenon is centered around our military bases. Few times in United States history have so many returning warriors been the boy, girl, man or woman next door. The vast use of Reservists called to active duty during recent conflicts means these warriors, most who come home bearing some scars (all scars aren't visible), are more likely to live and work in our own communities. Men, women, and yes children are involved when a Vet can't find work or can't function well enough to work. If we don't help provide the tools they need to return to a "normal life", we failed in our obligation to this generation of warriors, who have gone and fought in our stead.

I salute you, and I am proud to stand with you, in the fight for this worthy cause. You and the Membership of your honored organization are true Americans and Patriots. I will most likely stand with you again in the future, in another worthy cause. We do what we do not for the glory, but because somebody has to step forward, take the point positions, and do the right thing for those who fought for our freedom, and continue to fight for it now.

                                                                         Respectfully Yours,
David L Anderson, Senior Chief Petty Officer, USN (Retired)
