Mark Beebe's Report on the Middlesex County Get Together at the Ivoryton Tavern

The coordinator for the event, the County Chairman was not in attendance, he was in Pennsylvania trying to keep a ceiling from falling on his head. In Vinny's absence he had arranged to have Welles oversee the event. The group did not arrive as a group, they arrived more or less as a dysfunctional group of individuals who arrived individually or in small clusters. The group from New London County arrived at the designated meeting place to find a group waiting, Vinny called to let us know the Distasios were running late but were on the way. We decided, for a change, to be nice and wait for them. After a significant amount of time went by without their arrival Dave decided to stay behind with Randy, and their better halves, and wait as the rest of us headed straight to the Tavern. On arrival we found that the wayward were already there, four of them, by this time Dave had already decided to head in. Between bikes and cars a total of 18 bodies took over the tavern. taking over the place and putting tables together and grabbing booths meant that the nightly dart competition held there would not be able to use three of the four boards, which meant anyone heading to the john would have to watch out for airborne steel projectiles.

There were a few beers drank, drunk, ingested.  The food devoured ranged from chili and burgers to salads and  wraps, but burgers took the bulk of the orders. See attached menu.

Other than the specialty burgers, burgers are ordered by adding toppings after you pick out the size burger,
  • Mini burger = 1/4 pound
  • Little burger = 1/2 pound
  • Tavern burger = 1 pound
I myself had a Little burger (as did most of the burger eaters) with cheddar Monterrey jack cheese, raw onions, bacon, pepperoni, and jalapenos. I asked to have the Jalapeno Remoulade for a sauce but being out of it I had to settle for the Chipotle sauce. Throwing on the tomato and lettuce that all the burgers come with on the side made for one hell of a tasty burger. I added a crock of cheese covered chili to the meal as a side dish. I chased it down with a Sam Adams Boston Lager and a couple shots of Mister Daniels.

Sandwich is usually good a devouring great quantities of digestible matter, but this night he decided to take it easy, the only member of the group to attempt a Monster Burger, and that was Evert. I can happily say, for his sake he only manged to eat half of it and the rest followed him home in Styrofoam.

Though no one ordered it this time I am happy to report that peanut butter and fluff still holds a spot on the menu.
