Rain Riding tips.

If it is pouring, or you prefer to stay dry, I suggest a rain suit, Reflective panels a must, a motorcycle creates a very small signature in a downpour and being run over from behind would probably ruin your entire day. Sure the rest of us get to wear our Honor Guard gear and ride in a parade in front of the hearse, but that is short lasting.

Rain boots are a good thing to have to keep your feet dry. After a long ride in the rain your feet tend to prune.

If the rain has just started stay away from the center of the lane, rain has a tendency to allow oils to float up out of the pavement and until that washes away you will want to avoid it.

There are a number of things to watch out for in the rain, leaves are one, sand and or gravel washed into the travel lane another. Painted lines on the road will also give you a thrill. And don't think the paint is only slippery when you are turning. crossing a painted cross walk while cruising along can give your bike the rear end kick or wobbles. Water has a tendency to sit on top of the paint, can be a bit slippery.

Always watch where you put your feet, making a stop at a red light and putting your foot down on the paint will lead to your foot slipping out, the bike falling over and you doing a split. Now this may not be such a bad thing if you are female, but as a guy, a split is the last thing you want to do. In case you have not noticed, or no one ever told you, a girl can do a split, and pop back up with out an issue. Guy's usually have a pulled...muscle.

Most important, watch out for the morons in the cages, they cannot seem to see us when the sun is shining, when the visibility is restricted they see absolutely nothing. Plus most cagers believe bikers hide when it rains and they are not expecting to see you.
