Motorcycle deaths are on the rise, why? A look at the NTSB site shows an increase in Motorcycle reported deaths every year since 1997. There are many possible reasons for this but no organization can come up with anything definite. Helmet laws are regularly blamed, by the public, because it is an easy target, but no official organization will back that answer because there are no specific studies. It is also hard to determine if a helmet would have saved a persons life, plenty of speculation but no definites. There are also no studies showing how many persons received severe injuries to the brain or body (while wearing a helmet) leaving the victims fully dependant on others.
One thing is sure, motorcycle related accidents are up , here are a few of the reasons.
- More motorcycles are on the roads than ever before.
- More inexperience people are driving them.
- More older riders with reduced reflexes are driving them.
- Automobile drivers have more distractions than ever before including Coffee holders, Cel phones, Nav systems, Stereo systems, etc.
What we can do is be more alert to the dangers, don't ride relaxed, and always expect the unexpected.
One word describes the increase in accidents, injuries and deaths of Motorcycles riders.
ReplyDeleteAlcohol.....
Every accident that I have reviewed ... the motorcycle rider had been drinking, and in most cases, was over the legal limit.
My advice ... drink alcohol based on the number of wheels on the ground...motorcycle..2 wheels.. have only 2 drinks... Car..4 wheels..have only four drinks...you will be OKAY...
