NEW motorcycle Training required in Rhode Island

A new traffic Safety measure was handed down from the Rhode Island State Offices in Providence this week, ALL persons wanting to acquire a motorcycle operators permit and ALL persons holding Current Motorcycle Licences will be required to have the new "Basic Motorcycle Safety training". The idea behind the new law is to introduce those people wanting to operate motorcycles a basic idea of how a motorcycle handles and also allow veteran riders a refresher.

According to one State employee, "There are more motorcycles out there than ever before and we want to give them the best chance to survive they can have."

While the State wanted to institute the new training, current budgetary issues made it difficult to set up and finance the continued operation of such a facility.

Luckily a representative from the Westerly/ Dunns Corners area realized that they already had a building they could use and with the help of Federal "Hurricane Sandy Disaster Relief" Funds, they could accomplish the task fairly inexpensively.

So the State has the Simulators up and running and as of next year training will become mandatory. Training schedules will be mailed to all current motorcycle operators, and people those willing to learn how to ride and receive their operators permit may contact the State offices via their website.

The course price varies, it starts at 50 cents and goes up from there depending on how much training the person may need.

In order to help with State Finances, the State has decided to add  "High Tech Hand Gun and Small Arms Training" at the same facility.

Prices are the same as with the Motorcycle training.
