I woke up this morning
I woke up this morning, which is always a good thing, the day you don't wake up is usually an indication something serious may be afoot. I pulled Charlene out of the shed and headed over to A.O.B. (ass on bike), for the ride to Barbecue in Windsor Connecticut. On the way over I was pondering all the things I have going on, railing placement on front steps, paying the bills, what other vegetables I should have added to the soup I made. I was wearing my backup jacket and had my primary in the tour pak so I could have Margo replace the zipper. I decided on wearing chaps today, it was going to be in the low 60's and I figured what the hell, better toasty warm than uncomfortable cold. It turns out I didn't need them but hey, I was toasty. Dave took us on a cruise north before turning west, the turnout wasn't the greatest, let's see, 225 Club members in the Club, nine motorcycles and ten members on the ride. Well it could be worse, but I will correct it here to say 4.444444444444445% of the club attended the ride, well, that actually doesn't sound any better does it? Dave took us up route 32 on Montville to Raymond Hill, then 163 to Fitchville Road in Bozrah, He then ran up 32 to 87 through Lebanon and the Beaumont Highway into Willi-Rico. We again picked up 32 and cruised to Stafford Springs. We had no use for road Guards on the ride due to the size of the group but we did deploy the tail gunner (radio bike) and a Trike to block 32 for the Raymond Hill turn. This is probably the only time I have been on a ride where a Trike rode in staggered formation.
In Stafford I believe Dave pulled off a Tom without raising suspicion, usually a turn onto Park Street is enough to get you across to Ellington, but Dave took Park to Tolland Avenue, then down West street to ... Park Street. Then a left on Park Street (route 140) which took us across the Connecticut river to Windsor Locks. There he picked up 159 down towards Windsor where we made our first stop, Bear's Smokehouse Barbecue for lunch. http://www.bearsbbq.com/
Lunch:
The food at Bears was really good, the pulled pork and brisket were a hit with just about everyone. The burnt ends were more of a hit but since they were sold out before we got there we will never know how good they are, until we go back. The people are nice enough, how many restaurants would serve Rosy, not only let her in and gave here a chair but they fixed a bowl of meat for her at no cost.
I do recommend the Moink Balls, That's Meatball wrapped with Bacon (oink), They have three different sauces, Sweet, peppery and spicy. The spicy is what it says, it gets the tongue to tingling.
Leaving Bears we cruised back up 159 to 140,
Something about "no turn on red", then Dave tried another Tom, we were onto him though and he heard about it when we arrived at the next destination, Hot Leathers, We had a rider who needed leather. Momma Margo set him up with a vest and a set of chaps and explained the nuances of their use. Three bikes split off to head home as we arrived there, but before we headed out they were back, We decided the next stop would be the Shady Glen, for fried cheese. The three set off again as we sat in the parking lot. Dave took us down 194 then across 30 to Oakland street as we cruised in the three members who had left earlier were coming the other way, they made a left in front of us and headed west, (?). We took Oakland to Woodbridge then onto 6 and 44 for the Shady Glen stop. Dave picked up the tab here, (much appreciated). At this point we were all on Boomarang mode. We headed out, we had made the loop and were now trying to return to the starting post. Dave and Margo's trip would take them down 85 to Colchester for wine, not sure which way Bill went, Joe took 44 straight east, Randall stuck with the Adamses, Vincent and Myself hung on with Dave until 207 where we crossed through Lebanon, and Baltic into Norwich, Vincent continued down 12 as I made my way south on the back roads to home, where I put Charlene in the shed, jumped on Jenny and went to the Diner. Being dark now, the temperature had fallen and my...well, twas a tad, well, the Moink balls were getting cold.
As far as the three wayward members who left ahead of us, then crossed our path heading west? They may still be out there.
We were met at Bears by two members who came up by car, Sandwich and Amanda, we told them to be there around 1pm, they arrived at ten of, we arrived around five after, Not bad considering we made a stop road side in Lebanon because one of the bikes front end felt loose and jiggly.
We narrowed the problem down to the front forks which seemed to be a tad light on fork oil. Undaunted, he continued on even though his ride was a tad, bouncier than ours.
