Another day with sweat in the eyes.

It wasn't as bad last night as the other day but it was still sticky and drippy. I went to Mike's Famous and purchased a pillion seat nut,

Placing a single pillion or bib

on the back fender requires the forward nut and bolt.
Which if you have a full seat on your bike, Harley does not include, it instead has a plastic plug in the hole with their logo on it.

So as you can see from the top photo it is a pretty easy install, a threaded sleeve with a lug and a E clip to lock it in place. Unfortunately....getting the nut in place, (it comes up from the bottom) isn't all that easy. As a matter of fact, if you are an adult, your arms will "nut" fit in between the tire and fender.

So the first thing that comes to mind is, dropping the rear tire. If you have ever dropped a rear tire off your bike, you will know this is not a fun prospect unless you are extremely bored and or want the experience. I wasn't and didn't.

So I grabbed a roll of thread,
Actually I used white thread. I fed the thread down through the hole and out along side the tire.

Once through it was a simple matter of tying the thread around the nut, using the snap ring groove,

pulling the thread back through the hole, drawing the nut up also. Then using the Pillion bolt,

Thread the nut, pull the nut up through the hole (aligning the lug with the notch) and snapping the lock clip in place.

And VIOLA !!! Done.

Using the thread instead of string means that you don't have to untie the string once it's in place, lock the clip and pull the thread til it breaks.
