Sunday Ride Report

Dark, heavy clouds were threatening as we left Dunkin Donuts Sunday morning but we didn't get a drop the whole day. We had a relatively small group show up for the ride, but not bad considering the weather conditions. 13 in all, including: the President, Vice President, Road Captain, Secretary, Biker Joe, Evert, Dale, Melinda, Craig, Ginny,Tammy, Margarite and myself.
The ride was quite pleasant as the sun started to show itself, but a little chilly in the shade. We took Raymond Hill Road to Rt. 163, to Rt. 82, to Rt. 154, to Rt. 80. I didn't follow the road signs after that. At one point the Road Captain realized a tad late that he was at the turn off and pointed for us to turn right down a tertiary road. The first three riders didn't have time to make the turn, but the rest of us made it and pulled over to await their return.
Joann greeted us at the end of their infamously steep driveway. We parked on the road and went up to the house where Steve was waiting for us on the deck. Sitting there under the tent with his cane, I felt like we were granted an audience with a village elder and in a way we were. Steve was in pretty good spirits considering the difficulty he has had with recuperating from surgery and it wasn't long before he was calling for Danny to get his newest toy.

Steve had picked up this soft-air gun that shoots bio-degradable pellets just hard enough to go the distance, but soft enough to be safe, and not pierce the skin. His purpose was to discourage squirrels from pooping all over his hot tub. A few of us took turns shooting at a metal birdhouse Steve had strung up on a clothes line. It had automatic and semi-automatic settings which made it easy to go through a lot of pellets very quickly.

Some were old pro's

Some needed a little direction

I was in the latter group

We rode back the way we came, but detoured onto Rt. 9 South to I95 and over the bridge to Rt. 156 where we stopped to eat at what I thought was the Old Lyme Tavern, but attempts to find the same place we patronized on the internet were futile. Regardless; the food was good, the waitress was attentive and you could see at least one flat screen TV from where ever you sat. Not that we watched much TV, we were too busy enjoying each other's company. As always, good times must come to an end and we split up into smaller groups to head home.

I want to thank Tammy for sharing these photos with us.
