At last, a break in the action of the weekly snowstorms since the holidays. The Old Saybrook Public Works Department would like to say how much we appreciate those involved in the first annual Public Works Department motorcycle toy run that was held Dec. 11 in conjunction with the Torch Light Parade.

All riders were asked to bring an unwrapped toy, as a donation, to Old Saybrook's Youth and Family Services, to be handed out to those in need for Christmas. It was a great success with 55 motorcycles and more than 100 gifts collected.

A special word of appreciation to Bill Ried, founder and coordinator of the Torch Light Parade, the Old Saybrook Police Department, First Selectman Michael Pace and transfer station recycling coordinator Anthony Hunter for leading the parade. Also, a thumbs-up to the New London Motorcycle Club, Serenity Soldiers and the local Old Saybrook motorcycle riders.

Editor's note: The writer is director of public works in Old Saybrook.
