01/16/14 MEETING REPORT

It was advised that the owners of Street Stuff Cycle could not make tonight’s meeting and that they plan to attend next week’s meeting. Street Stuff Cycle, located in Norwich, is a Triumph Dealer and a former Big Dog dealer. http://www.streetstuffcycle.com/

The Town of Montville rejected the club’s application for Tax Exempt Status. The club is once again appealing this decision.

The Springfield Motorcycle Show is this weekend. President, Jim Moran, is planning on going up on Sunday. Please contact him before Sunday if you would like to join him. http://www.osegmotorcycle.com/

I have never attended this show but I’ve been told by one source to expect a lot of custom bikes but not many vendors. Meanwhile, another source has told me just the opposite. I guess I’ll have to go and see for myself.

I know Jason will be sorry to miss the World Series Motorcycle known as “The Curse Breaker”. It will be on display at the Shark Motorcycles booth on Saturday. http://www.osegmotorcycle.com/html/shark_cycle.html

The Patriot Guard has invited us to join in their flag line in the Honor and Remember Flag Presentation for the parents of SSgt Edwin Rivera.

Staff Sergeant Edwin Rivera was a NLMC Prospect when he passed away due to wounds sustained in combat. Contact Vice President, Dan Dunn or Treasurer, Paul Neves if you plan to go. They may plan to meet prior to the event or just show up early to the event which is being held indoors.

George Booker will be moving his worldly possessions to his new house on Saturday and can use a hand or two or more. The sooner he gets settled, the sooner he can get to work on his bike. We missed him quite a bit this past season.

As part of the The Middlesex County report Vinny Yanonne advised us of a remedy for arthritis. He wasn’t very specific, but said you can find the details on the internet. http://www.foxnews.com/health/2011/04/11/gin-soaked-raisins-alleviate-pain/

Basically take “Golden Raisins” and soak them in “Gordon’s Gin” for a specified amount of time. A chemical reaction takes place giving the raisins healing properties. There were suggestions that those afflicted should drink the gin, but Vinny insisted that only the soaked raisins were necessary and that you would not get drunk. He turned to Jon Kataisto for proof of its effectiveness. Jon admitted giving it a try and having success, but advised that he lapsed in his treatment and his aches and pains returned.

The Road Captain advised there will be no ride this Sunday since he must work, it will be cold and there may even be some snow. Of course if the weather is good, you may find a member or two to ride with at the usual meeting place, Dunkin Donuts on Rt. 32 in Uncasville.

Do you suffer from the same affliction that I do? Kind of like Pavlov's Dog with the bell, every time I pass a Dunkin Donuts I get the strong urge to ride with my friends.

Website Manager, Tom Miskell, is looking for club photos to add to our website. I’ll be giving him my collection. Please be sure to get in touch with Tom to see how you can share yours as well.

There was discussion of Winter Riding Apparel including heated gear and snow mobile gear. Many of the heated gear owners expressed their satisfaction with the products. Tom Lloret advised that if the lights on the Gerbring control unit are not steady, simply shut all controls off and then turn them on again. This should result in steady lights and heat generation. Joe Fogarty advised that snowmobile gear he’s bought from Cabela’s is quite warm and quite a bit less money than motorcycle gear.

The winner of the first of two Harley Davidson signs, donated by Mark Beebe and being raffled off for the benefit of the club was Gary Dobrinski. I don’t know how much money this generated for the club. There was a flurry of last minute ticket sales before the drawing and I think I heard Mark say something about Twin Rivers?

Some more shots from tonight's meeting:

You'll have to ask Tom and Jon what they were discussing.

Melinda did a fantastic job filling in for Margo with the Sign-In Sheet.
