Ever had a boss that was easy to fire up?
I came up with an idea as a joke, Two guys, standing up on a pallet jack, ride it downhill alongside the bodyshop and out into the general parking area. I called it the two man standing Luge. Well the idea took root and the service manager joined in, so we made up posters, we made it an "open", inviting the neighbor dealership. We made up number tags for the contestants to wear. All this just to get the General Manager of the store excited. It worked, He was pacing back and forth, he brought back one of the flyers and told me "we can't do this."
So..we made up the training schedule and posted it, listing the teams from our store and the neighboring store. The GM was walking around telling people how dangerous this would be.
To finish the Joke and put him over the edge, our service manager and one of his clones donned a couple motorcycle helmets, taped on the numbers and pulled the pallet jack around the building past his office. He was just about on the verge of a heart attack. I'll tell you, it was a lot of work and took a bunch of people to carry off the joke, but it was worth it. So if you have a boss at work, a pallet jack, a hill, and you want to get him fired up, start by posting a flyer.
