On the way to the boat yesterday there was a discussion regarding cartoons, new artist vs old artists, How the older cartoons were better. Someone mentioned they loved the roadrunner with the Coyote always chasing the roadrunner. i mentioned a YouTube version where the Coyote catches it...here it is...

Sunday's Ride
The New London area Club members got together at Dunkin and headed south on 395 to 95 for a ride to exit 52 the TA stop to meet up with the Club's western members. There was a short delay in heading down to the boat as the bikes sat around awaiting the arrival of the cages.
The Club arrived at the Thimble Island docks to jump on the boat for the tour, the ride, and for a few of the members..a beer. The weather was warm and comfortable yet overcast and threatening rain. Two of the members stayed ashore to discuss the area boaters.
After the boat re-docked we hopped back on the bikes and left the area, just over the border out of Guilford on Route One we stopped at "Friends and Company", a local restaurant. Finished eating, bikes began taking off in different directions as members headed out to make it home beating the rain. Many jumped on highways and made a bee-line for a nice dry house, slower dim-witted members decided to take a more scenic enjoyable ride.
Four of such bikes (Three members and two guests) took route 1 through Clinton and Westbrook to Old Saybrook where they took Bokum road to Essex, rte 604 to 602 and crossed onto route 154. They cruised along enjoying the scenery along the Connecticut River then picked up rte 82, crossing the river then cruised together until they arrived on the lunar surface at Salem Four corners. Here three continued on 82 while one of the riders took 85 east to I-95. As the lone rider crossed the Thames River, he noticed that the area above I-95 was black..like a strip of Midnight lining the Interstate's route. As he continued it got darker yet, making him wish he had clear glasses on instead of shades. As he crossed the reservoirs in Groton the heavens let loose, drowning him completely. He arrived home, left a trail of water though his house as he picked up his phone to see if anyone else had gotten wet. From one well regarded source He assumes all four went swimming.
I can honestly say that I am glad I took that route, it was much more fun than a highway ride and riding in the rain can be (and was) enjoyable. But, I did notice that the lowers on the bike...don't seem to do a damn thing. My legs were the first part to get totally soaked.

Ya gotta love 'em...
I run with two sets of highway pegs on my bike, it gives you a wider variety of leg positions. I put the long reach pegs on my bike the first week I had Charlene, I can't ride with just foot plates.
Last week I bought the mounts for the upper pegs, $99.95.
Today I stopped by the dealer and picked up the new pegs, $69.95
I took the parts home, whipped out the tools and installed the brackets, I then opened the peg kit, inserted the bolt, adjusted the angle I wanted, tightened them into that position. I slid the tension plates in, wedging the pegs into position, then went to install the mounting bolts to hold the pegs to the bracket...only...I didn't have any mount bolts. I checked both packages...no bolts. Time to look at the instructions.
"These mounts require part number 94133-01 Bullet Tip Footpeg Bolt kit to install footpegs"
So back to the dealer... $99.95 mounts
$69.95 pegs
Bolt kit...$21.95.
One look at the bolt kit though and you can see the reason for the price...

The metal used was especially mined out of the ground, "by hand", by migrant college trained Dwarves, then packed onto burros where they are taken to the metal-smiths and hand pounded into shape, magically hardened, then shipped by Clipper ship to the United States. Once there they are flown first class by carrier pigeon to Milwaukee, where trained artisans place them into decorative packages before sending them out to the dealers...
So you see...for all that...It's a pretty good deal...
wouldn't you say.

There are good days...
There are bad days...
Sometimes you can't tell which way the day will go....
Sometimes it seems to be a good day, then something happens...
So a day that seems like it was good, turns out otherwise.
Then there are those days when...
You just know right away...
It's going to be a crappy day...

Fastest meeting ever
I got home tonight, started talking with an old friend (texting). I decided to send her some photos I had of her and the kids from about 10 or 12 years ago, but I had to load the scanner into the computer. I then did what I do at work.
So...never made it to the meeting,
Scanner works though

You have to push on the handle bar...
When you are heading into a left turn you want to push on the left hand handlebar to drop the bike and increase your turn....or
You can just ride like you're the passenger and let the bike take you where it want's to go...
Problem is, where it wants to go and you want to be are probably not the same thing.

I take it there's a change in turn angle in the lane on Mulholland drive...putting your foot down does not help. And remember always wear your helmet, it works like a place marker when you stuff your butt under a guard rail. The more colorful the better.

Ohio has taken three of our members...
They will be missed, hopefully, they will comeback.
From what I hear, Ohio says We're too damn ugly and they don't want to spoil their state's natural beauty, so they are sending one of our brothers home..

Report of the NLMC Rodeo
Report of the NLMC Rodeo
and Picnic 7-15-12.
Good turnout, Bill Tibbs did a great job as usual, the steaks
were delicious as well as the Chicken and everything else that was brought by
the members (too much to list).
The games started about 1400hrs and all the adventurous people
stepped up to the challenges.
First was the Ball Set (passenger sets a tennis ball on the
cones) won by Mike and Randy
Second was the Ball Pick Up ( pick the balls off the cones)
won by Chris and passenger
Third was the Tire Toss ( throw a bicycle tire over the 5
cones) won by Steve and Sue
Tire Toss for the trikes was won by Ted and Craig (you go
guys )
Fourth was the Slow race won by Steve D
Fifth was the Balloon Toss ( throw a water balloon over the
upright, catch on the other side) won by Doug and passenger
Sixth was the Weenie Bite won by Chris and Kaitlyn which
dethroned the two time winner Sierra
Seventh was a timed event, the Four Leaf Clover and was won by
Tom L. which was less than one second difference from Chris L.
The final event was Motorcycle Jousting ( you had to be there
to see it) Water balloons were the ammo and the riders were the targets. Won by
Lane and passenger.
A great time was had by all and after the final event the
remaining water balloons did not get wasted. Water balloons were flying in every
direction. If you left dry you were either lucky or could duck real
quick.
Thanks to all that came and made the Third Club Rodeo and
Picnic a great success.
I hope to see you all same tine next year.
I'll be think of new ways to challenge the riders and amuse
the spectators.
Ride Safe,

The weather report
It's raining,
Precipitation is evident,
Let me...'splain
Precipitation forms when cloud droplets (or ice particles) in clouds grow and combine to become so large that their fall speed exceeds the updraft speed in the cloud, and they then fall out of the cloud. If these large water drops or ice particles do not re-evaporate as they fall farther below the cloud, they reach the ground as precipitation.
Precipitation that does re-evaporate before reaching the ground is called "virga"
The more water vapor there is below the cloud, and the stronger the updrafts that cause this water vapor to condense into cloud water or ice particles, the more likely it is that precipitation will form within the cloud.
So, a cloudy day with no precipitation indicates that there is either (1) not enough water vapor available to the cloud for precipitation to form, or (2) that the rising motion creating the cloud is not strong enough -- or both.
So to make it really simple...if you go outside and there is water falling on you from the sky....It's raing

Trantolo
The issue concerning Trantolo and Trantolo LLC and the Blessing shirt turns out to have been more a mis-communication than a refusal to pay. After many...many Conversations between the Law Firm and The Club President, the issue has been straightened out and appears to have been a total mis-understanding. I have been asked to convey this information to the Club, and let them know that all ill will and or feelings have been set aside and the issue has been put to rest.
Scott Trantolo assures us that his Firm does not and never will act the way it was perceived.
So I ask that everyone involved or advised of the issue put it to rest. The Club and the Law firm are both more than happy to continue their past association.

Every day at work should be like today
I had to attend a meeting today in Rocky Hill for work, it being hot, humid and miserable I opted to leave the comfort of the gas guzzling AC equipped work-mobile at home in favor of Charlene. At 10am I jumped on the highway, If I had my way I would have blown off work and just cruised to Rocky Hill on any and every back road I could find, but since my boss was also going to the meeting I had to depart work the same time they did. I cruised 95 west to Old Saybrook then ran north on route 9. At exit 3 I noticed a couple drops of rain on the windshield, then it came down rather fast covering the windshield but I never felt a drop as it ended as fast as it began.
I arrived at the Marriott, had the meeting (luckily, the powers that be would be there for two additional meetings) leaving me free cruise back to work..
I took 91 south to Middletown where I picked up 66 east. Ran that till route 151 in Cobalt. Took 151 through Middle Haddam to Moodus where I grabbed 149 south to East Haddam and 82. I jumped on Palmer Martin Road to stay in the shade, which took me back onto 82. At the 82 route 148 split (ferry) I crossed straight onto Brush Hill rd. This turns to Mt Archer and was a really nice ride until I got to the top of the hill at the horse farm. On the straight in front of the horse farm the front of the bike came less reactive, sort of like when you start losing air. Look...up a head...there's a sign post...you are enteringThe Twilight Zone, No a loose stone, 5mph area. The bike was cruising at about 40 heading for that long down hill to the right left turn onto Macintosh road. It is amazing how long it takes to slow a bike down when heading down grade in loose stone. At the end of Macintosh I crossed route 156 onto Beaver Brook and then Grassy Hill onto 85 which took me back to work in New London.
I really would like an out of town meeting everyday.

Friday
A rather boring morning on Friday, I woke up too early and worked around the house, (laundry and other such fun chores). Charlene had a date with Mike, he was planning a little fluid exchange with her but that wasn't going to happen until 9am. So I jumped on her and headed down the road..picked up smokes and stopped at the Dunkin at 117 and 184 for coffee. While I was there Carey arrived, his ultra large rte 27 in Mystic coffee was nearing the end of it's existence and the cup needed refilling. We stood around flapping our gums for a while then my ride showed up. Gerry arrived so I could drop Charlene for the three hours at Mikes. I was glad he brought the truck, the thought of riding bitch for the next few hours was not something I wanted to do. (It is strange though how squeamish bikers have become, image conscience to the extreme, in the 70's no one gave a second though to having a guy on the back of the bike or jumping on behind someone else. It got you where you wanted to be).
I dropped Charlene off and having no idea what to do for three hours we went to Norm's for breakfast. It is funny how fast a public place with a radio on and background noise goes from being real loud with people talking to dead silence when the power goes out. The diner came to a stilled hush, Brenda stepped outside and yelled over to Paul's across the street to confirm that everyone was out of juice not just the diner. She came back into the tomb like quiet of the diner and said, "What the hell is everyone being so quiet for?, You can talk when there's no power."
After lunch we killed the next two hours by watching the trains roll through and the Submarine Base Police launch a gunboat under the bridges. With the waiting period over we headed to Mikes to pick up Charlene. I followed Gerry to his house so he could pickup his Road King, we fueled up in Old Mystic then took 27 to route 1 in Mystic and followed that east into Rhode Island. We cruised Watch Hill and Misquamicut, the beach area of th road had some fine looking young fillies but I am sure there were a hell of a lot more on the water side of the dunes. Unfortunately not only is it a pain to cruise a touring bike over sand dunes and down the beach but I believe the local Constabulary frown on it.
We cruised Weekapaug, then 1 and 1a each until we hit RI rte 110. we then headed up 110 to 138 to 2 to 102 to 3 and stopped at The Middle of Nowhere for eats at around 330. Then it was 3 to 138 across the woods and yards to Clarks Falls road in North Stonington and 184 to center Groton where we stopped for coffee before splitting up and heading home.
Having a work day off was just what I needed, Just one day and it worked wonders.

In Honor of the day
Because of the nature of the Club event on Sunday I am giving All Club Road Guards the day off from being Road Guards.
That doesn't mean you don't have to show up, It just means we won't be using you as Guards.
We would still like you to be there, It's your chance to fall over in front of the Club and not get picked on.
I prefer all the Guards come and fall down...Let's get it out of our systems somewhere we are not officially on duty, and we are out of "Public" view.
I have actually been thinking about the falling down issue, It doesn't happen often that a guard bites the dust, it is rare in fact that a Road Guard falls over while performing a traffic maneuver,
But on the occasion where it may happen...and in agreement with the Road Captain's philosophy of "Always on parade". I have decided that if it does happen that a Road Guard falls over making a turn, then all other Guards should drop their bikes also...Let's make the populous think we meant it to look like that. (I believe the Drill Team does this on occasion.)

California Restaurant 100 Percent Bacon Burger
Since it is a KNOWN FACT that bacon is the secret of a long life, a California restaurant has come up with the perfect breakfast...lunch....dinner....anytime snack. (except for the egg, I hear they are high in cholesterol.)

The meaning of life...simply put is...the ability to have as much Bacon as you want...as often as you want.
