Prodical Blogger Returns / Americas Past time and Thunder

Your prodigal blogger, Gray Beard, is back at the key board.

June has been an exceptional month in more than one way.

The rain never went away, but, it didn't stop our intrepid group from laying down serious miles and spreading good cheer along the way.

Here's a few things we did as a club:

On June 7th, 19 riders spent a Saturday enjoying a great ride, then watching a softball game club sister Johnna Anderson played in. It was a fun day and proved once again, we are a family oriented motorcycle club!

On the second Tuesday of June, we had our monthly meeting of the Windham Region Riders at Martello's Restaurant in Canterbury, CT. We discussed our participation in the Canterbury 4th of July parade. This will allow us to show our patch in two parades this 4th (along with the Groton Parade). Good going Bubba. As always, good food and laughs were part of our meeting.

On June 14th. we had a very good showing at The Reason To Ride, run out of Plainfield, CT. Our riders looked good on the road and mingled with other riders at the VFW cookout.

On June 17, our club responded to President Moran's request for riders to escort the wall in record numbers. More members turned out for this event than any other event in recent memory. Many of our club brothers also rode the poker run that was used to fund the wall event. Good enough they did as only 17 other riders showed up to ride it.

On June 26, forty bikes departed from Friendly's Restaurant in Norwichtown, CT, riding to New Hampshire. Pictures are always better than words to show what the ride was like. Please check it out. It's listed under club rides.

Do you want to improve your riding skills?

If so, show up on Monday Nights at Ocean Beach Park. Our seasoned Road Captain, Tom Lorett will help you hone your skills. This is a fun night that will help you be a better rider.

Every Monday night during the summer months the Club holds practice night at Ocean Beach park in New London, Ct.. Newer riders are taught basic motorcycle skills, and all members are taught or review Evasive maneuvers, and advanced motorcycle control. Monday nights are also the time when the drill team meets to practice riding patterns and formations for special events. After finishing they usually go into follow the leader maneuvers through cones at different speeds, and in close proximity for the fun of it. All riders are invited to join, since every minute you spend on a bike, especially doing things you don't usually do builds confidence in yourself and your bike. Knowing how far over a bike can go without being dropped, how long you can hold the bike upright at a stop without dropping your feet and how to proceed, stop, and change directions without putting your feet down all help when you find yourself in tight traffic conditions or when the unexpected happens. Here is a collection of photos taken on those nights. Footage is also available on YOUTUBE.

Rolling Thunder !!! June 20 2009

What was promised to be a momentous show, hundreds of motorcycles roaring in…noise…strength…support, petered out. Clubs were invited to meet off West Main street and ride in to Norwich for the Traveling Wall, as you can see from the photos, Clubs was not really a feature, it was more like, NLMC and one Gate Keeper, with a Police Escort.

The photo above and two below have to do with ball busting and Grooved Payment
