Attendance was very good for tonight’s meeting; the first
meeting of the New Year. It was a seasonably cold 18 degrees, but the skies and
roads were clear. I doubt that turnout would have been the same if there was
snow on the ground.
Between snow and overtime at work, Dave Adams has been chomping
at the bit to ride and rode his to the meeting.
It was good to see Jim back at the gavel and there were some
musical chair games going on as the new executive board members and appointees
took their places at the big table.
The Treasurer reported that we collected and donated $125 to the
Malta Ministries for the Samaritan Swim for the Homeless on New Year’s Day.
OK, these girls are not members....but they should be! |
The Vice President reminded us that the Bike Blessing is slated
for Sunday, April 27th, rain or shine. Anyone who knows of a
business that would like to be a “T-Shirt Sponsor” should see the Club
Secretary, Jason Moran and anyone who knows of a company that would like to be
a vendor at the event should see the Treasurer, Paul Neves.
Recruitment Chairman, Steve “Smurph” Murphy advised that he is
starting the “Mileage Competition” for a chance at tickets to this year’s
Annual Banquet in November. Be sure to
mark your mileage down on the form posted on the bulletin board in the club
house as soon as possible to get credit for as many miles as possible. Smurph
has most members and their bikes listed on the form. If you don’t see your name,
there is room in the back to add it. Also, if you have more than one bike, you
can list that in the back as well and Smurph will add the mileage for all of
your bikes together at the end of the promotion.
2nd Vice President, Steve Natale, advised that a few
members will be at the club house tomorrow at 1:30 PM to take down the
Christmas decorations and clean up the kitchen. All members are welcome to lend
a hand.
Middlesex County Chairman, Vinny Yannone, advised that the
County now has 27 members, a number of whom made the meeting tonight. He also
reported that Kieth Forsey and Lance Atwood were working together to plan rides
to historic destinations. If they're anything like Paul Neve’s ride to Plymouth
Rock, they should be a very good time.
Vinny also produced a chart to be used to keep track of this year's Sunday Rides.
Reminder: Windham County meeting is this coming Tuesday at Dino’s
Grill on Rt. 14 in Canterbury. 6 PM to eat and 7 PM to meet.
Road Captain, Tom Lloret, reported that there will be a “Kamikaze
Run” this Sunday to Guida’s Restaurant in Middlefield for “Hot Dogs and Fries”
We
will have two meeting spots:
Dunkin Donuts in Uncasville with an 11:00 AM A.O.B.
Dunkin Donuts in Durham with a 12:00 Noon A.O.B.
Right now it looks like a chance of rain before noon, then mostly
sunny, with a high near 45 and breezy. Let’s hope for the best!
Mark Beebe has donated the Harley Davidson signs below to the
club. He will be selling tickets for the first one and drawing the winning
ticket at next week’s meeting. $1.00 each, no volume discount.
Rich, owner of Street Stuff Cycle, Triumph Dealership in Norwich
will be at the meeting next week. Street Stuff was one of the vendors at last
year’s Bike Blessing and will most likely do so again. http://www.streetstuffcycle.com/
Mike’s Famous Harley Davidson is moving to 951 Bank Street, New
London (location of the old Coca Cola bottling & distribution center)
I believe it was mentioned that they will be having their Grand
Opening at the new location soon, but I wasn’t able to confirm the date.
Dan “Hoss” Dunn and Paul Neves plan to attend “The Springfield
Motorcycle Show” on next Saturday, January 18th. http://www.osegmotorcycle.com/
Get in touch with them if you’d like to join them. They may be riding up if the
weather is good. Be sure to wear your patch.
Yes, this is a motorcycle club and I can't imagine wanting to do anything other than ride my bike on a beautiful day, but interest has been expressed in holding another Boating Class
this year. See Vinny Yannone if interested.
A few more shots from tonight's meeting. Sorry I didn't have time to crop them nicely.
