The morning of November 4th

That would be yesterday for those of you who have trouble with dates. Breakfast was Pumpernickel Toast, Bacon, Coffee and Formula One cars. I sat down at 7:30am to watch the Grand Prix of Abu Dhabi which was a great race with Reuben texting me through out the race about the race. The race was over and at 10:00am I headed to Dunkin for the extended A.O.B.

After sitting around drinking coffee and chewing the fat we headed out. Honestly I thought there would be more fuzzy headed riders after the party the night before but there weren't. We ran up 32 to 2A and in Poquetanuck picked up 117 South to Ledyard Center then 214 to Route 2 at the Foxwoods Casinos. We had four Road Guards for the ride, I placed Smurph and Mike Henry on the right, as Sandwich and I took the left side. As it would turn out, Sandwich and I were just along for the ride, we deployed Smurph and Mike a couple times. We ran east on Route 2 to 201 Cossaduck Hill where the Right Guards made their first deployment. The Club made the corner and headed up the hill, Smurph and Mike took the turn and headed up 201 to catch up with us, as they started the run up the hill Mike heard the distinct sound of metal bouncing along pavement, but he saw nothing. We recovered the Guards after the road leveled out.

Tom took us up 201 crossing over 165, through Glasgo to route 138 which we took towards Voluntown.
There we took Ekonk Hill road (49), (deploying the Right Guards again), to Plainfield Pike (14a) then 14A through Sterling (Oneco) to 14 and Weideles for Lunch.

Tom told us during the Thursday meeting he was going to have parking practice, and here was the first parking maneuver.  He rode into the lot, drove halfway through, turned right and nosed up to the sidewalk. (If this was practice it couldn't have been much easier). Although, for some reason Jason was caught out and parked behind Jim, (I think he was waiting for Tom to do a loop turn and didn't).

I pulled in next to Smurph, who, for some reason hadn't parked his bike yet. As I got off my bike he turned to me and said, "No Kickstand" It turned out that that metallic sound that Henry had heard was Smurph's kickstand deserting the bike. After just lying the bike on it's side and losing gas, we lifted the bike back up and Smurph drove across the parking lot to use the Weideles sign as a bike support.

After lunch we had a route change, instead of cruising west on 14 and picking up 97 home, we decided to retrace our steps for an Easter Stand hunt. Sure enough, halfway down Cossaduck Hill, there it was lying on the side of the road. Distasio picked it up and we continued down 201 to 184 and made a stop for coffee at Dunkin in Center Groton where Smurph used a handy tree as a stand. Smurph was reunited with his errant stand, at which point he hit it with his hand and said, "Bad Kickstand!, you are going to spend the rest of the ride in the Tour-pac to think about what you've done." After coffee we all headed off to our homes.

A rather enjoyable relaxing day, with comfortable weather.

I told Smurph to try cycle salvage today but it turns out they do not service Harley or Street bikes.
