74 degrees and Sarasota isn't riding!!!

You complain about the cold, "It's too Cold to ride".

You complain about the Snow,"It's too slippery to ride",

You complain about the sand and salt."

it makes a mess out of your bike"

And they are all good complaints...

But...

What if the weather was fine, let us say 74 degrees,

and the sun is shining bright,

                                        Wouldn't you be riding?

Well Up here in Southern New England it is Cold... between us and Florida it is Snowing, and in Florida, Sarasota County, it is warm and wonderful...

But That County's Chairman isn't riding

And he has a better reason,

You can get on your bike and go out in the cold, you can take it easy and handle or avoid the ice, you can spend a couple hours when you get back and clean off the sand and salt, and...O/k snow sucks...

The reason you can do all those things is because you have a well performing bike.

Sarasota is waiting for Japan,

Because that's where is new engine "case" is coming from.

To be honest Craig, I kinda hate that you can ride in a tee shirt and I have to wear layers, but...

I hope the wait to get the bike back from the shop is not long, No one should have their bike out of commission,

Abd to be honest, I hope the day you get it back... It snows in Florida

Hey...Fair is fair.

After shopping for supplies for the Club, Mr Miner and myself went to the Club to cook sausage and meatballs and sauce for this weeks Thursday Meal (Italian Grinders) While waiting for the meat products to cook we started up a game of 21. All was fine...then the 2nd VP showed up, and while he didn't really do all that much to help with the food, he did clean me out. But it's o/k, I'm used to leaving Casinos broke.

Last Night

The Club met at 6pm for the pre-meeting dinner while the kitchen staff had already been there a while...
And some looked like they've been there forever

Others arrived early and chose to wait outside as the snow started blowing in

Almost everyone like Meatballs and sausage

The weather may have been a factor in the light turnout, which meant plenty of food for everyone

--------------------------------------------

Back in the kitchen they wait to clean up, our youngest member has taken the name "Kitchen Bitch" for himself,

Meal and meeting over the boys are out in the snow...sometimes they don't have enough sense to stay in out of the weather...What is it about boys and fire?

Back in the kitchen the cleaning continues...

Last nights meeting...

We ate, we burned some stuff, The E-board is meeting with the Tax Lawyer today, Except for the Vinney Breakfast there were really no reports from anyone. Meeting over 730ish.

Dinner next Thursday...will only look like left overs

Yes...it will be Italian Sausage and sauce, Yes it will be Meat-a-balls and sauce, but it'll be new stuff and no sketti...it'll be grinder rolls.

Because You are so Special...

A crouton is a small piece of sautéed or rebaked bread, often cubed and seasoned, that is used to add texture and flavor to salads, notably the Caesar salad, as an accompaniment to soups, or eaten as a snack food. The word crouton is derived from the French croûton, itself derived from croûte, meaning "crust".

Making croutons is relatively simple. Typically the cook cuts bread into small cubes, coats them in oil or butter (which may be seasoned or flavored for variety), and then bakes them. Alternatively, they may be fried lightly in butter or vegetable oil, until crisp and as brown as desired to give them a buttery flavor and crunchy texture.

Nearly any type of unsweetened bread, in a loaf or pre-sliced, with or without crust, may be used to make croutons. Dry or stale leftover bread is usually used in lieu of fresh bread. Once prepared, the croutons will remain fresh far longer than the bread.

A dish prepared à la Grenobloise (in the Grenoble manner) has a garnish of small croutons along with brown butter, capers, parsley, and lemon.

Thursday Salad will have Croutons

HEY MA!!! What's fer Dinner?

Well, unlike HEE HAW there will be no possum stew and biscuits cookied in Muskrat fat, No Road Kill Steaks, or Catfish cakes.

Thursday meal will be... in honor of all the Vowels in the Club....

Italian Sausage, Meat-a-balls and Spag-gets...garlic Bread and perhaps...

A salad.

Bring your own wine...Red preferably

Mok and Bub

You're my hero!!

Additional note on the sunday ride, on our way into New London  where we would drop off our bikes for a car when we stopped at a red light a convertable Mustang pulled up along side us and the owner rolled down the window to inform us that since we were riding our bikes in the twenty degree weather we were his "heros" he also mentioned that not only do we ride in cold weather we put on a light show at the parades. The reason for the statement regarding the lights is that he belonged to an organization that also participated in the parades and the club blew their doors off. HIs warning was that this year we should be on the look out because "they are going to bring it"

Sunday. January 24th

Thursday night Vinney Y. invited the Club to attend a breakfast meeting at the Parthanon Diner in Old Saybrook Ct. About twenty members said they would attend.

Saturday I talked to Reuben, Jerry, and Brenda. Jerry and Linda were going to the breakfast but in four wheels, Brenda and I were riding my bike and Reuben his. I decided that since it would be a chilly ride I would let Brenda plug in and I would ride bundled. The three of us jumped on the bikes and headed out, by the time we hit the Thames River my fingers were burning so we dropped the bikes there and took my car. Arriving at the resteraunt we found that the expected number of members at the meeting was a tad under estimated. As we arrived Ron and Sherry were getting out of their car and the Distasio's were arriving by bike. A quick glance at the line up there were about 12 or so bikes. Walking up to the front door we were met by a line of regulars who "never had to wait to get in before". We were directed past the line and found the Club occupied two main tables and Ron, Sherry,Reuben and I were directed to a booth next to the main tables while Brenda sat with the Natales, it was great to see so many of the Club away from the Clubhouse, looks like winter may be over and there will be more riding. The food was excellant as was the service, Vinney handed out Raffle tickets and while no one won the Orange County Chopper the second prize was issued, from where I was sitting I could not see who won it. It was the newest copy of Easy Rider Magazine. For some unknown reason Tom sported underwear on his head.
We have photographic proof of this, but my camera person has not forwarded them to me yet

After breakfast about 8 bikes headed out for a ride, Rueben, Brenda and myself went to Ricks. Rueben was suppose to have split Ricks wood but never got there to do so, so he was put to work bringing the wood into the house. After a visit where the three of them talked while I fell asleep,(anyone who has been to Ricks and sat in one of his recliners would not hold it against me), the four of us jumped in my car and headed to Rocky Hill for Wings, Philly Cheesesteak, burger, raw Oysters, pickles, beer and Scenery. fantastic Scenery. There is something about Hooters that makes you want to go back again and again. (there are alot of this about Hooters that makes you want to go back again and again...and again) Brenda received a free Coors Light football glass and some new wardrobe, Reuben received a Hooters Calendar and me and Rick...nothing..(They didn't have tank tops in our size). All in all it was a great day with good company all day long.

With the Club doing things again maybe I'll have real items to post and won't have to keep finding goofy pictures to post

She has found that if you put your mind to something...YOU CAN DO IT

For those of you who went with us to the Monson Mass Hillclimb, here's a tid-bit of information. The person in this photo is Molly Carbon. (She is seen getting ready to make a run on the hill) Molly lives in Bellingham Massachusetts, she started riding dirt bikes at age 6, and hill climbs at age 8.

In 2008 she broke a femur and could not attend the Nationals that year. The 2009 Nationals were held in Minnesota so she started saving her pennies and counting the days. She competed in the 125 class and 250 class through out the year in New England. When it came time for the Nationals her father and her headed across the country.

She is 19 years old and the "2009 AMA Racing National Hillclimb Womens Class Champion"

Congratulations Molly.

For more about this check out the February issue of American Motorcyclist.

Let me tell ya a quick story...

We were scheduled for inventory at work today, I should explain that I do not work Saturdays, and so I don't think of them as a "work" day. the weather was suppose to be sunny today so I took the bike home last night and it was cool but comfortable. This morning on the other hand was cool, so cool in fact that I received the equivalent of an ice cream headache on the way in, no problem though, after all it was going to great later. This is where I step back to yesterday, my weekend guy asked me if we were open on Saturday, I said no you fool, we have an inventory remember? Today I get to work, we started the inventory at 7am, and my weekend guy is on time, (this in itself should have set off an alarm in my head, he is never, NEVER on time). We had 10 counters and two key punch girls. At 11 am the counting is done and all the counters took off, at 1130am the key punchers left. so I am alone, and at this point I remembered that service is open, allllllllllllllllllllllll day. So here I sit starring out of the building at a nice sunny day. WTF

Did I mention, I'm not really dressed to work with customers today, BMW (I don't believe) lists, skull chained boots, skull belt, and a Harley Davidson Cafe shirt as proper attire.

There are two morals to this story:

Moral 1: If someone who is not usually interested in something shows interest...Suspect something.

Moral 2: If someone who is never on time for work shows up early on a special work day...Hit him upside the head with a 2x4.
You may still have to work...but you'll be happier about it.

(I may use the 2x4 thing on Monday...just for the joy of it.)

Shoes for Crews is donating approximately $180,000 worth of footwear to help Haitian Relief Efforts

West Palm Beach, FL — January 18, 2010 — Shoes For Crews is mobilizing a Relief Effort Campaign to help the children and families in Haiti suffering from the recent earthquake.

Shoes for Crews is donating approximately $180,000 of sneakers, boots, and steel toe footwear to help the needy citizens of Haiti.

Matthew K. Smith, CEO of Shoes For Crews, stated, "This tragic earthquake has unleashed unimaginable heartbreak and loss on that very poor nation. Shoes for Crews is here to help. We have already sent a container of shoes and boots worth approximately $180,000 to two organizations that will help distribute them in Haiti."

Smith also stated, "This tragedy hits home for us, because we have many Haitian employees who have suffered deeply because of this tragedy. We wanted to help them through this crisis by being actively involved supporters of the Relief Effort and do what is best for the Haitian people."

Stanley R. Smith, Chairman of Shoes For Crews, stated, "Besides the footwear donation, Shoes For Crews basically bought the entire supply of childrens clothing from the local Goodwill store and SFC employees generously donated food and clothing as well. Our employees then spent a day loading up a truck with over 2,000 pieces of children clothing, over 200 pairs of mens shorts, over 200 adult t-shirts, over 100 cases of bottled water (2400 bottles) and over 300 cans of soups and other food items."

Shoes For Crews, based in West Palm Beach, Florida, is an international manufacturer and direct-distributor of slip-resistant footwear to the foodservice, hotel, supermarket, healthcare and industrial marketplace. Their products help prevent slip and fall accidents in some of the leading companies in the world, including McDonalds, Burger King, Chick Fil-A, MGM Mirage, Starwood Hotels, and Frito Lay amongst others.

Shoes For Crews will be donating the footwear to two different organizations:

Rene Joseph, the operator of the Loving Hands Ministry will be receiving some of the footwear, plus all of the clothing, food, and water supplies. They run orphanages in Haiti and are sending daily flights, flown by local charter pilots, and shipping containers of relief materials to Haiti. His organizations efforts will be focused on helping children in Haiti, but of course, they will also help families as well.

We are also supplying the majority of the footwear to Soles4Souls [www.soles4souls.org] for their Haiti Relief Program. Soles4Souls is a charity specifically focused on providing footwear to people in need.

WRITE IT ON THE BACK OF YOUR ENVELOPES or front

WE THINK THIS IS A GREAT IDEA. WE'LL START WRITING IT ON THE FRONT OF OUR ENVELOPES, TOO! ----------Including Bills

You may have heard in the news that a couple of Post Offices in Texas have been forced to take down small posters that say 'IN GOD WE TRUST ,'

The law, they say, is being violated.

Anyway, we heard proposed on a radio station show, that we should all write
' IN GOD WE TRUST' on the back of all our mail.

After all, that's our National Motto, and -----
all the money we use to buy stamps.

We think it's a wonderful idea.

We must take back our nation from all the people who think that anything that offends them should be removed.

If you like this idea, please pass it on and DO IT. The idea of writing or stamping.........

'IN GOD WE TRUST '

on our envelopes sounds good to us ...

SOME PEOPLE ARE HAVING A STAMP MADE TOO.........

lets use it as our signature on e-mails, too!

It's been reported that 86% of Americans believe in God. Therefore, we have a very hard time understanding why there's such a mess about having ' In God We Trust!' on our money and having God in the pledge of Allegiance.

Could it be that WE just need to take action and tell the 14% to 'sit down and shut up'?

If you agree, pass this on to your friends

Don't ignore this

that's one reason why this world is in the mess we're in now.

WE SIT BACK & LET IT HAPPEN!!

IN GOD WE TRUST

Jim M

BREASTISES

We need those of you who are great at forwarding on information with your e-mail network. Please read and pass this on. It would be wonderful if 2010 were the year a cure for breast cancer was found!!!!

This is one email you should be glad to pass on. The notion that we could raise $35 million by buying a book of stamps is powerful! As you may be aware, the US Postal Service has the "Fund the Cure" stamp to help fund breast cancer research. The stamp was designed by Ethel Kessler of Bethesda , Maryland . It is important that we take a stand against this disease that affects so many of our Mothers, Sisters, Friends, Coworkers, and Spouses of Coworkers.

Instead of the normal 44 cents for a stamp, this one costs 55 cents. The additional 11 cents will go to breast cancer research A "normal" book costs $8.80. This one is only $11.00. It takes a few minutes in line at the Post Office and means so much. If all stamps are sold, it will raise an additional $35,000,000 for this vital research. Just as important as the money is our support. What a statement it would make if the stamp outsold the lottery this week. What a statement it would make that we care.

I urge you to do two things TODAY:

1. Go out and purchase some of these stamps.
 2. E-mail your friends to do the same.

Many of us know women and their families whose lives are turned upside-down by breast cancer.
It takes so little to do so much in this drive.
We can all afford the $0.55. Please help & pass it on.

Why Women Shouldn't Take Men Shopping

After I retired, my wife insisted that I accompany her on her trips to Target. Unfortunately, like most men, I found shopping boring and preferred to get in and get out. Equally unfortunate, my wife is like most women - she loves to browse. Yesterday my dear wife received the following letter from the local Target.

Dear Mrs. Samuel,
Over the past six months, your husband has caused quite a commotion in our store. We cannot tolerate this behavior and have been forced to ban both of you from the store. Our complaints against your husband, Mr. Samuel, are listed below and are documented by our video surveillance cameras.

1. June 15: Took 24 boxes of condoms and randomly put them in other people's carts when they weren't looking.

2. July 2: Set all the alarm clocks in Housewares to go off at 5-minute intervals.

3. July 7: He made a trail of tomato juice on the floor leading to the women's restroom.

4. July 19: Walked up to an employee and told her in an official voice, 'Code 3 in Housewares. Get on it right away'. This caused the employee to leave her assigned station and receive a reprimand from her Supervisor that in turn resulted with a union grievance, causing management to lose time and costing the company money.

5. August 4: Went to the Service Desk and tried to put a bag of M&Ms on layaway.

6. August 14: Moved a 'CAUTION - WET FLOOR' sign to a carpeted area.

7. August 15: Set up a tent in the camping department and told the children shoppers he'd invite them in if they would bring pillows and blankets from the bedding department to which twenty children obliged.

8. August 23: When a clerk asked if they could help him he began crying and screamed, 'Why can't you people just leave me alone?' EMTs were called.

9. September 4: Looked right into the security camera and used it as a mirror while he picked his nose.

10. September 10: While handling guns in the hunting department, he asked the clerk where the antidepressants were.

11. October 3: Darted around the store suspiciously while loudly humming the ' Mission Impossible' theme.

12. October 6: In the auto department, he practiced his 'Madonna look' by using different sizes of funnels.

13. October 18: Hid in a clothing rack and when people browsed through, yelled 'PICK ME! PICK ME!'

14. October 21: When an announcement came over the loud speaker, he assumed a fetal position and screamed 'OH NO! IT'S THOSE VOICES AGAIN!'

And last, but not least:

15. October 23: Went into a fitting room, shut the door, waited awhile, then yelled very loudly, 'Hey! There's no toilet paper in here.' One of the clerks passed out.

If you don't tell this to 12 of your dearest friends, your property taxes will go up, your stocks will go down, and your middle will spread. (How's that for a curse?!?) What? It's already come true?

Hi, everyone –

Just a note to share a bit of exciting news… I was invited to join the Roar Motorcycles for Women team at their booth at the Springfield, MA motorcycle show last weekend! I was there Friday through Sunday and Les was able to join us on Saturday morning for the rest of the weekend thanks to Jill, our vet tech, who took care of our kitties while we were there.

Why is this so exciting? Because Roar is one of the first motorcycle dealerships in the country completely geared toward women and I am thrilled to be a part of it! Located in Daytona Beach, Florida, Roar Motorcycles customizes - or “Roar-ifies” – motorcycles to fit women and they have also just begun to manufacture their own motorcycle!

Attached are some pictures from the show and you can see the rest of them at http://picasaweb.google.com/ridingfullthrottle/RoarMotorcyclesAtSpringfieldMotorcycleShow?feat=directlink (click on the slideshow button).

If you want to know more about Roar Motorcycles, you can visit their web site at www.roarmotorcycles.com and if you are on Facebook, you can send a friend request to Roar New England and join the Roar Motorcycles for Women group!

Twix a rock and a hard place

You ever have to make a choice? A choice between something you love and something you love. This is my problem. I absolutley love the Club Sunday events and I look forward all week to them, But Michael Schumacher will be back behind the wheel of a Formula One car this year. Running on tracks like Monza, Monte Carlo, and Spa. I love Spa. Open wheeled cars and rain, and it almost always rains at Spa. I have every Race and Qualifying taped from 1996 through 2007. I watch them live and edit commercials, the time doesn't matter 730am 3pm, Midnite or 2am. So what do I do?  Is it possible to get Sattelite television? Is it possible to mount it on a bike? Will I have to ride Bitch to watch it?

A CONTEST !!!

Here's your chance to show what you know, or what you think you know, or what you don't know, or what you don't know you don't know cuz you think you know.

Anyway... heres is a photo, (a clue: it is an ooold photo), I need someone from the Club to tell me two things, first who is that scruffy looking dude in the photo...

And... what is that engine?
Partial answers do not count!!!!  !!!!!!!!
We need to know exactly.

And yes, it is a trick question, because if it was a simple question there would be no point in asking it.
Also if it were easy I would not be saying what I am about to say.
The first person that nails this gets a fifty dollar gift certificate to either Motorsports Nation or Mikes Harley.

(Reading between the lines should indicate that I do not have any gift certificates. I will not get one until someone wins and I find out where they want it from.)

All answers are to sent to my E-mail hotrail13@hotmail.com
so...look at the photos, have fun and let me know.

There are a couple people who...know the answer, and those people already KNOW they can't play.

If no one gets this, the answer will be posted february 1.

What an absolutely beautiful Day

The morning started like any other morning, the alarm clock went off. I hate the alarm clock and I have two. But funny thing, on a weekend, when the alarm goes off I’m up. For some reason it doesn’t work the same on weekdays, the snooze bar gets hit a lot…A Lot. Anyway, I digress, The alarm went off and I got up, washed, and dressed and headed out to get my bike. Unlike many people me and my bike are separated, I live in Mystic, it lives in New London. (It has a nice warm garage there). I picked it up made a call and headed to Dunkin Donuts on Colman street. At 9am Mister Dunn (the Road Captain for today’s ride) arrived.

We had coffee shot the shi… ah talked for a while then fueled up and hit the road. I decided since he has no heated gear I would rough it today and go unplugged. After about 4 miles we were in Waterford and I decided I needed a hat, ears were cold. So we pulled in the town hall and I donned my skunk fuzzy and a mask.

We started off again and headed west up rte 156 through Niantic, past Rocky Point and South Lyme, Lyme, and Hamburg to route 82. We turned right on route 82 then a left on 85 and headed to Colchester. I have to say, not being plugged in, my fingers got a little cold. We stopped at D&D in Colchester to restock the body heat before cutting across Colchester on Halls Hill rd, Norwich Av to Elm street which brought us onto route 16.
A left on route 207 once again showed me how the hard compound Pirellis I have on the bike hate being cold as they kicked out on a heavy throttle take off. We cruised a bit on 207 before turning right onto Olinick rd. Here we found the first sand of the day, I hit it with my rear tire and the bike kicked out a bit before coming back on line, Dan hit it with his front and found his bike wanting to go in a different direction than what he had planned. Here’s where Dan and I differ on tactics, on a sandy road Dan drives very professionally and controlled, (slow) I prefer the balls to the wall method and opened it up. Both methods work fine, but Mine is more fun.

Since we were up that way we decided to visit Hazlet’s garage for a while before heading back. The road to Rick’s is a combination of ruts, potholes, last years leaves and mud. Once again I opted for the throttle method, I like dirt biking, Dan cautiously made his way down the road in order to reduce mud slinging.

After leaving Rick’s we once again traversed the mud flats then proceeded home via 207, 87 and 395. We took 395 to blow the carbon out of the bikes. 69.2 miles from when we started we stopped at the Club so Dan could turn the heat on for tonight’s party. As we were getting ready to leave the distinct sound of a V-Twin resonated in the air, shortly afterwards Dave and Margo arrived. Seems the nice weather was too much for them and they had to get the bike out.

At this point Dan went home to clean his bike, and I’m sure he was out there with soap and sponge and a myriad of small brushes and swabs getting every bit of dirt out. As for myself I headed south with Dave and Margo to New London. Dave and Margo headed up Phillips street to start their ride I headed to the garage where I gave my bike a wash, (consisting of a quick hosing) then put the bike away.

Dan said he found his smile today…between the throttle and his ass. (And, no Adrianne, this does not mean his head is up his…you know).

All in all a great day for a ride. We receive a-lot of looks from people, you know that look, (see previous blog entry) but as Rick says, “They just don’t get it”.

Traction Control

It is absolutly beautiful outside, Grabbed the bike and went for a cruise. I just want to remind anyone riding, traction control on a motorcycle is...You.
I was laying into a corner on a S turn and found the second corner was in the shade. Do you know what lives in the shade?  It's called ice. The time required to miss an object in a corner was not met, I managed to change my line and cleared it with my front wheel, The back wheel's track did not change as much and hit the ice. The back end kicked out...IT WAS GREAT. I went back across it again on my return trip. Here's what happens, the rear tire slides outward increasing your lean, the front wheel continues on its line which means your bike is now angled to your fork. Kind of like dirt tracking. The only difference is when the rear wheel clears the ice. Be ready for the kick as it bites. Hold the bar loose and enjoy the ride.

It you can clear an obstacle with your front wheel you can usually steer your way out of a problem. If you hit ice with the front wheel and have any lean going, the front will wash out. At that point there usually isn't much more you can do, either ride it to the ground (try to stay on the upward side of the bike) or bail out.

If you come upon ice the best thing you can do is come off the throttle, straighten the bike and try to keep a 90 degree angle to the road. Do not attempt course corrections on the ice, wait to you clear it.
