The Leaves Are Starting to Fall

There is no denying it any longer, Autumn is here. Cold mornings, beautiful warm days, and cold evenings. Layering your clothing is your best bet when riding, unless you have heated gear with temperature control.

There is a lot to like about this time of year. No excessive heat. Fall foliage. The chance to wear sweaters, jackets and sweatshirts that have been abandoned all summer.

Halloween fun and treats.

Thanksgiving dinner which purposely occurs during Autumn when you can hide those extra pounds with sweaters and sweatshirts.

But for me Autumn is the harbinger of the dreaded freezing winter, snow, slush, sleet and ice. None of which is appealing to a motorcyclist. Not to mention shorter daylight hours that will continue to reduce until December 21st.

This sight is very depressing.

No for me Autumn is not a time to celebrate a new season, but a time to mourn the loss of Summer. Summer with its long days; when a little rain actually feels good while riding, rather than now when a late day shower can be the cause of hypothermia if you don’t pull over and dry off.

Fortunately this is only a temporary situation and Summer will be here again in about 8 months. Until then here are some reminders of what it was like in Summers past.
