Structural and electrical inspection

From the President


As of yesterday, Wednesday, we had a structural, and electrical inspection, and have passed both.

Next phase will be to finish installing the T-1-11 siding, insulate and install 1x8 shiplap pine to the ceiling, and trim the beam.

We will need volunteers with staple guns, gloves, safety glasses and ladders for insulation, of course nail guns for the 1x8 ceiling installation.

The next available work date is Saturday, May 14th, 2011. A notice will be sent out as a reminder

Ride ends at Sunset Ribs who will donate 50% Need 30 Riders for Road Guard service, and volunteers for parking.The plan hasn't been confimed yet with CSP but be thinking about it.

The official Thursday night ride was cancelled...

due to the weather forecast. The weathermen all got together and predicted showers, sometimes heavy rain, and thunderstorms for the afternoon and early evening, and for once...they were right. With this in mind the Road Captain called off the ride. I woke up in the morning, pulled the bike out and headed to work, the rain was light. Around noon a thunderstorm rolled through, then the day went back to being..foggy with showers, at about 4pm another thunderstorm rolled through..then fog and occasional drizzle.

When 5pm rolled around I locked up the shop and hit the road, after a short ride I arrived at David's Place , with the fog settling in around the restaurant I went inside for supper. The weather was keeping everyone away, bikers and cagers, Socrates wasn't making a killing today...

After eating (around 6pm) I went outside , sat on a bench and waited to see if any one else would come by. After a while the parking lot began to fill with Club members..

We held the riders meeting about 6:20pm, went over the hand signals, picked out the Road Guards and set a sweeper, and decided to pull out bar to bar.

I have to say, out of all the times we have pulled out of anywhere, this had to be the smoothest bar to bar departure I have ever seen, no one, absolutely no one went to the wrong line, and there was no jostling of positions.

The rain held off for the entire ride, although there were times the fog made seeing the road ahead difficult, and I had to occasionally wipe the moisture off the windshield.

We headed up route 85 to Salem Four Corners then picked up route 82 and stayed on that to Moodus where we picked up route 151. My bike was acting up, I was receiving a banging feeling through my left footplate but couldn't see anything, and the bike was refusing to up-shift, taking two or sometimes three attempts before it would choose a higher gear. Cruising along looking down I could see nothing wrong and neither Road Guard could see anything hanging or loose.

In Moodus proper we picked up route 149 and took that to route 16 in Westchester. We proceeded west on 16 to the Salmon River crossing then turned onto Comstock Bridge road. For those of you who are unaware of this, there is no Comstock bridge at Comstock Bridge road, the covered bridge has been taken down. Turning onto the road I called for a stop and we pulled over to see if anything wrong could be seen with the bike. What I found was the heal shifter had loosed up and was half off the shaft and flopping around.  I grabbed an Allen socket to loosen the bolt, reposition the shifter and re-tighten it only to find that I had no ratchet to work the socket. A little more digging in the saddle bag found a standard Allen wrench and the repair was made. From then on the bike was fine. We got back under way, and followed Comstock Bridge road to Bull Hill road, ran up through the switchback then up through the sweeper and over the hill. At the stop sign we took S. rd down to river road and followed that back to route 149.
   We turned left onto 149 then right onto Old Hartford road which we took to Broadway then Main street and South Main street through downtown Colchester to route 354. Picking up 354 we continued through some really heavy fog down to it's end at route 82. From there we crossed onto Old Colchester road and took that to Moxley and the Clubhouse arriving in time for the meeting and some light sprinkles.

I can't say the ride was longer than the meeting but it was better.

I have to say the only thing that went wrong with the ride is when we arrived at route 82 from route 354, I indicated I wanted one Road Guard to go right and one to go left to hold traffic while we crossed 82, but neither deployed, instead the sweeper pulled up alongside of me and gave me an incredulous look.  I guess the guards do need more training.

YEAH !!!

It was more than just adding cookies

The recent picture showing George with his pile of cookies received a lot of E-mail comments...

Everyone wanted to know if it took a long time to add all the cookies and if I used Photoshop.

The answer to both those questions is NO. The most time consuming part of adding the cookies was gathering the cookie pictures off the web. I did this photo edit at work, work is too damn cheap to have Photoshop on my terminal. I used "Paint". (work is so cheap I don't even have Microsoft Word, we have "Open Office", and I had to download that myself).

Actually the hardest part of the photo edit was making sure George had all the cookies to himself, So I had to kick two cookie mongers out of the scene and replace them with grass and woods.

because you know...they would have eaten half the cookies on him.

The mystery Ride for this evening has been cancelled.

The forcast is: Showers and thunderstorms will become numerous during the afternoon and locally heavy rainfall is possible. High: 68-74.

Kind of depressing, I rode to work in the rain this morning so I wouldn't have to go home for the bike tonight.

Riding in Thunderstorms is cool, especially at night, The lightning is fantastic to watch, it makes it hard to see the road, but it's great to watch.

Just think...one month ago...all this wet would be snow.

Send COOKIES !!!

George had a little side trip yesterday, He was cruising along went into a corner and found sand.He went off the road and ended up with his bike on top of him. He pulled it and himself out of the woods, started and went home, then to the hospital. George is home now, it would seem his head is pretty hard, and survived the wreck o-k, the same can't be said for his scooter.

George says if you want to do something for him....He likes cookies, send cookies

2011 Blessing and slide show

The days leading up to it were on and off rain, with rain pouring through the night, then, the Lord breathed out and the clouds parted, the rains flew away, the sun came out and the temperatures rose. With the Sky's clear...the bikes rolled in.

The Annual N.L.M.C. Season Kick-off, the "Bike Blessing" was held under windy but clear sky's, everyone was commenting on the weather, they came.  It had been a long cold winter, sometimes it seemed it would go on through June, they came to have their bikes blessed and to be with other bikers.

The Club showed up in force to do the job and did it well. It was a great day..

Season Kickoff..Tomorrow

The Annual Season kick-off, The NLMC Bike Blessing is tomorrow. Some of the Members will be heading to The beach today  (they should be there now) to do a basic setup and get the trailer and supplies there. Tomorrow Members will begin arriving at 7am to finish the set up, then they will be heading to Stash's for breakfast. They would love to have you there to help if you are able.

The gates open tomorrow at 11am to the general public.

As of this moment, the weather for tomorrow as guessed by WSFB is:

Sunday: Rain ending early in the morning, then partly sunny in the afternoon. Low: 46. High: 62.


Don't let the rain stop you, head on down, and remember after the event is over there is still take down and the ride back to the club to put the equipment away.

12 noon-              get on bike and get outa Dodge, cruise the roads waiting for the club ride at 6:30pm

Sounds like a full day to me

Sunday Ride Recap

The ride was set for 10am and by 9:50a the parking lot at DD was full. With Jim Scarritt lined up at tail-gunner, Dana riding in the E-board position and my Road Guards in place, the line of bikes departed Dunkin northward on route 32 for a twisting, direction changing cruise through eastern Ct and Rhode Island. At times it was a chore to see the end of the pack as we snaked through the hills and dales.

O-K, I lied, there were no road guards in place because...there were no road guards. The parking lot was full, it was full of cars. Other than myself Jim S. and Dana there were only four other bikes and one of those would leave before we did and another would break off and head for Dunkin in Center Groton.

So we soldiered on, five bikes, we cruised up 32 and ran across the Thames at Uncasville to pick up route 12 south. We cruised to the junction with 214 and took that across it's length, up through the twistys at Mashantucket before we turned south on Lantern Hill road and another bit of curves and hills alongside Long Pond.

We crossed route 184 in Old Mystic, I made a stop at the firehouse to talk to our newest rider, and we worked with Dana's CB, trying to get it to function. We picked up North Stonington road to Main street, then turned east on route 234, the Pequot Trail. Up over the hill and down through the curves where we turned south on Deans Mill road.  Deans Mill road, in case you have never been on it, is a short road running along side Deans Reservoir and Mystic Reservoir down to  Pellegrino road. It is probably the only road in Connecticut with a double yellow no passing line down it's center that is only one lane wide. I took Pellegrino because every ride should have a few bumps. From Pellegrino we turned north on Flanders and then east back on 234. At the end of 234 we made a stop so our one passenger could put on, one of those most hated of items, a helmet, before we proceeded into Rhode Island, and to allow Dana to work on his CB.

We crossed into the Ocean State on route 1, made the obligatory loop into downtown. A right turn on Broad street and a left on Grove put us on route 3 running past Wilcox Park. I was going to take route 91 but a previous recon of the area found that recent water main work had been done from Railroad Avenue up over and down the other side of the hill on Oak street, so we continued on route 3 to route 78 then a mile run to the exit for 91 which brought us to clean pavement eastward.

We took 91 past Chapman Pond,across Newton Swamp, and through Bradford, and Wood River Junction to Carolina where we turned right onto route 112, then onto Old Shannock road and Shannock Village road past the horseshoe dam. (I can say the ride was more pleasant than when I pre-rode the route in my car with a Police car behind me from Wood River Junction to rte 2).

At the Junction of Shannock road and Route 2 we stopped at the gas station for one of our newest riders to top off his tank and our female passenger to use  the facilities. I pulled out the menus for the,now two, destinations and let the riders decide. Of the five riders no one cared where we went, so our one passenger decided on the Hammerhead Grille because they had Crab cakes. we again worked with Dana to get his CB working then crossed route 2 onto Shannock for some more hills and twists. Shannock has some good turns and course pavement so you get excellent grip. The night before I had planned on Taking Shannock to Gravely Hill road to Route 110, I was in the car, made a mistake and missed the turn ending up on Shannock all the way down to route 1. So I knew there was a turn to make when we were on the bikes, I noticed it at the last second, after I made the turn, I corrected, as in backed up and made the turn onto Gravely, only then realizing I actually had wanted to stay on Shannock. But since both roads went to damn near the same location it made no difference. We took Gravely to 110 the 110 to route 1 west, then used one of the direction loops to head east. Dana had mentioned at the gas station that he wanted to sit out on the porch at the Hammerhead, I told him it would probably be too cool, and by the time we hit route one the temperature had dropped almost 10 degrees. We took route 1 to Narragansett Avenue, Scenic 1A and down to Narragansett Pier then turned south along the water on Ocean road past Scarborough Beach to Point Judith and lunch.  We ate inside.

After consuming mass quantities of Ocean life we headed home along 108 to Narragansett and route 1 to Westerly. Dana broke off and took route 1 in Pawcatuck(I don't know why) while the rest of use continued west on 234 dropping Jim at I95. The three remaining bikes ran 234 to Old Mystic, where I gave up the lead. At 184 And Cowhill the three of us all headed in our own directions. It was a pretty nice ride if I do say so myself.

Oh yeah...At 11:30a Dana wanted to know when we were stopping to eat, and he's still excited about the Wright Chicken farm run being renamed to "Dana's Reason to Ride".

Tomorrows Ride

Tomorrows Ride, Sunday 10, April 2011 will take us into the great state of Rhode Island, where passengers require Helmets and the Roads are made up of goat trails.

I have three possible targets in mind, and all lead to the same thing....food.

I will decide which destination we go to in the morning.

 I will require four (4). Chris Lloret and Rich Woodhall are in the great state of New York and will not be attending, Sandwich, at this time still has a motorcycle puzzle with three pieces missing and will also not be available. Available Gurard please meet with me before the ride .

Mystery Ride TONIGHT!!!

A REAL MYSTERY  RIDE!!!

      Steve called me last night to make sure that if he got tied up (It's amazing, you know members of the club and yet you don't really know them. I didn't know he was into the bondage scene), I would be able to lead the ride.

      So if Steve can't make it, I will lead the ride, and we will find out together where we'll be going.

So...Go to David's Place tonight, have some saturated fats, carbs and sugar then be ready to Ride!!!

NLMC Honor Guard Mission Memorial Attendance for Jack Atkinson, on Saturday, April 9th 2011. Jack was a Life Member of this club and passed away just before his 90th birthday. This will be a celebration of life event. Honor Guard wear is required.

Cardio lunch at work today

I am operating under the philosophy that to make muscles stronger you must exercise them, and just like building strong arms and legs by working the muscles so too will hard work make the heart stronger. When you run, your cardio rate increases.The more exercise you get the better shape the heart becomes, the heart rate will actually work at a reduced rate.

With that thought in mind, I prepared today's lunch.

Take Black Angus burgers, (4), place them in the oven and let them bake.
When the blood coming out of the top starts to slow, flip the burgers over.
place a pound of bacon over the burgers is a tight lattice work,.
Drain off excess fat (and there will be a lot).

Take the burger rolls, add mustard, and habanero sauce to them,
dunk both halves of the roll in the bacon fat so they absorb about a 1/4 inch of that transparent golden  nectar.
Place in toaster oven and toast.
When golden brown remove and spread a thin layer of grape jelly across the bottom.

With the bacon/burgers cooked, remove them from the oven, the upper layer of bacon will be ultra crispy and on the verge of starting to burn, the "layers" of bacon between the upper layer and the burger will remain soft.

Slice across the pan so that each burger has a square layer of bacon on it,
place on roll and enjoy.

Dessert

For dessert I once again took the rolls and placed them in the bacon fat allowing them to absorb a 1/4 inch or so of the fat, sprinkle with garlic, oregano and basil. and toast. When done the top layer of bread should be a translucent shimmering crispy layer of golden brown, sprinkle with Romano and Parmesan cheese and serve,

I know the Cardio meal is working, I can feel the heart pumping away and at the same time I didn't have to exert any energy. With the heart trying to pump that fat laden blood thru those closed plugged arteries it should be good and strong in no time.

i was looking for something to spruce up my yard,

The yard looks a little empty, it needs something, I just didn't know what. I do know I didn't want a lawn Gnome or flowers. I actually want something that tells people going by that I am into motorcycles, so I went on the Internet for some ideas...

I don't want one of those wind ornaments...

And I don't want anything..."Goofy" or seasonal...
especially not something inflatable...

I did find a lawn gnome that would almost be o-k...

but not quite...

I started thinking... do I really want a lawn ornament?

maybe a mailbox would be better...

But more than a normal mailbox,

I want something more..motorcycle...like let's say..

a motorcycle...

I actually owned one of these

So I started thinking about it, and looking at all the ideas,I made up my mind.

I drove up to Ledyard and looked around the farm Nursery, then I saw it...It would make the perfect mailbox..
